Flemington

Amsterdam

The Ciaron Maher yard will certainly not want egg on their face here, with this runner raced by influential owner Sheikh Fahad, who will be expecting a big performance on Australia's greatest racing day.

You would expect Maher has given this horse plenty of special attention over the past few months, with the entire preparation likely built around having him peaking for the Melbourne Cup.

These are the types of high-profile owners every major stable wants to impress, particularly when there is the potential for more quality international stock to follow.

It wouldn't surprise to see the Sheikh trackside for the big occasion, which would only add to the motivation for the Maher camp to deliver.

The pressure will be enormous, but this is exactly the type of challenge Maher thrives on. Expect him to be cherry ripe!

Youson

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will be desperate to bounce back following a disappointing start to the Spring Carnival, with several of their high-profile runners failing to deliver the results expected.

The stable has a history of targeting major carnival meetings with horses specifically prepared to peak on the big stage, and this could be the one they have saved for Melbourne Cup Day.

He has been good throughout the preparation and had genuine excuses at Caulfield last start when trapped wide throughout, yet still had the audacity to keep fighting and finish third of 13, beaten just 0.4 lengths.

That was an enormous effort considering the amount of extra ground he covered and suggests he is absolutely flying.

Given a more economical run with cover this time, expect him to be extremely strong over the concluding stages.

It will take a very good one to beat him!

Forvea

The Bjorn Baker stable are absolutely flying and you would expect they have been carefully selecting their best chances to unleash during the Flemington Carnival.

She was well supported late at Warwick Farm last start, firming from $3.80 into $3.20 before jumping straight to the lead and over-racing badly.

Despite doing plenty wrong, she still showed enormous determination to stick on and finish second of seven, which was a performance full of merit under the circumstances.

That run should have taken some of the freshness out of her and, provided she settles more kindly, there could be significant improvement to come.

Baker wouldn't be sending her south to tackle a high-profile Melbourne Cup Day assignment unless he believed she was showing him plenty at home.

The early support suggests she could be ready to produce her best.

So You Are

Ultra-tough stayer who can absorb enormous pressure and still be there fighting all the way to the line.

He has enjoyed a monster preparation, winning his past four starts, including several high-quality staying contests, before taking out the Bendigo Cup last time out to secure his place in the Melbourne Cup field.

That latest victory was particularly significant, with the horse demonstrating the stamina and determination required to compete over the longer distances.

Granted, he now enters the big leagues against genuine Group 1 international opposition, but there is something particularly appealing about a horse who continues to find ways to win.

He is rock-hard fit, racing with enormous confidence and should be capable of sustaining a long run when others begin to feel the pressure.

If the Bendigo Cup victory has brought him on again and he can bridge the class gap, expect him to be grinding all the way to the line and right in the finish.

He looks one of the leading local hopes. Yes!

Randwick

Churchill's Choice

The Nathan Doyle stable knows how to land a betting plunge and has successfully placed this mare for some significant collects in the past.

They clearly know how much ability she possesses and you would expect plenty of work has gone into having her ready to peak third-up, particularly given her excellent record at that stage of a preparation (4:2-0-0).

She loves a race with a brutal tempo where she can settle midfield or worse, smoke the pipe and allow the leaders to cut at each other before unleashing a devastating finishing burst.

That looks exactly the scenario here, with the likes of Puntin and Fully Lit potentially charging across from their outside barriers and ensuring there is no shortage of early speed.

If they burn the candle at both ends, expect her to be sailing down the outside and picking them up late.

The race shape looks absolutely ideal!

Ticklebelly

Talented country mare who certainly possesses the ability to pick off a metropolitan race of this quality when everything falls into place.

She comes through The Kosciuszko last start, where she was weak in betting and ran accordingly when finishing seventh of 14.

Interestingly, she may have needed that run from a fitness perspective after entering the race off a four-week break, suggesting there could be plenty of improvement to come.

That solid hit-out against quality opposition should have brought her right on and she now looks much better placed to produce a competitive performance.

She could be the big improver here, particularly if the stable has been happy with her progress since that latest run.

Watch betting very late. If another wave of support arrives inside the final few minutes of trade, expect her to be fighting out the finish.

Kerguelen

The Godolphin motivational factor is again in play here, with trainers naturally eager to deliver results for one of the most powerful ownership operations in world racing.

Joe Pride will be particularly keen to make an impression, knowing that continued success with these horses can only strengthen his prospects of receiving more high-quality stock in the future.

He did enough first-up at Warwick Farm when finishing third of nine, chasing strongly and continuing to run through the line in a performance that suggested he is in for an excellent preparation.

He appeared particularly forward in condition on that occasion, so there should be no concerns about his fitness second-up.

With the run under his belt and the stable motivated to deliver for Godolphin, expect him to take another significant step forward.

The motivational alignment is enormous. Yes!

Enamorada

There is some serious ownership firepower involved with this mare, including Ciaron Maher himself, members of his stable staff and influential racing identities such as Francis Cook and Sneesby Racing.

That creates a fascinating motivational dynamic, with Maher not only training the horse but also having a direct ownership interest in her success.

She has been placed to perfection throughout her career, winning four of her six starts, which is an outstanding strike rate and a clear indication the stable knows exactly how to get the best out of her.

You would expect they take particular care with this mare given the ownership structure, and the decision to target a Melbourne Cup Day meeting at Randwick looks anything but accidental.

This could easily have been a carefully planned assignment for the owners to enjoy a major racing occasion while watching their horse compete with a genuine winning chance.

With the stable's own interests aligned alongside those of several influential supporters, expect absolutely nothing to have been left to chance in her preparation.

The motivational alignment is sky-high and she could be ready to produce another dynamic performance. Yes!
