Betting Tips: Early Market Movers at Rosehill & Mornington 26/9/26

This week’s early price action offers punters a clear guide to the hopes of several key runners at both major venues.

At Mornington, Anthony and Sam Freedman appear to have targeted this meeting for some of their big betting owners, with several excellent chances attracting strong early support.

At Rosehill, the Waller/J Mac combination has been hammered by punters since markets opened, with the powerhouse pairing holding a strong hand across the feature races.

The recent Group 1-winning combination of John McArdle and Jamie Mott reunite here with this mare, who won her opening two starts this preparation before being far from disgraced when fourth of 10 at Sandown last time out.

She should now be the rock-hard fit horse and the drop from 1600m back to 1500m looks an ideal set-up.

With that fitness edge and the shorter trip, expect Mott to be even more aggressive on speed and potentially turn this into a real test from a long way out.

If they sprint for home early, she could simply run her rivals off their feet.

 

Tsarine

The Anthony and Sam Freedman stable have some big punting owners on their books and know exactly how to prepare one when the money is ready to go on.

That was certainly the case with this mare here last start when she was smashed late from $8 into $5.50 before duly saluting.

She is obviously much more exposed to the market now, but the fact the money has arrived again suggests she has continued to thrive since that victory.

If another wave of support comes late, take notice.

Rock-hard fit after plenty of recent racing and the drop back to 1200m should ensure she is one of the strongest horses in the race when the pressure goes on late.

The recent Pakenham jump-out is particularly interesting. For a horse already deep into a preparation, that additional piece of work suggests the stable has been very deliberate about keeping her ticking over for this assignment.

The yard knows how to land a betting plunge when they have one ready, so if more money arrives late, expect her to be fighting out the finish.

A Blake Shinn booking for Anthony and Sam Freedman always screams yes!

Shinn is one of the most sought-after riders in Victoria and takes particular care in sourcing the right horses, so his association here is an immediate positive.

Rosehill

Mr Chaplin

The O’Shea/Charlton yard are back in excellent form and have a serious chance here with this gelding, who was last seen winning the Grafton Cup.

He returns to Sydney chasing the richer prizemoney and has been readied for this first-up assignment with two solid trial hit-outs.

Barrier one gives them the perfect opportunity to settle just behind what should be a genuine tempo and conserve energy throughout.

From there, expect him to peel into clear running or take the shortest route along the rail before attacking over the final 200m.

 

Oh Yes She Did

Interesting runner for Peter Snowden who may not boast the most fashionable pedigree, but continues to hold her place in a stable that is particularly selective with its younger horses.

She comes through a hot edition of the Group 2 Furious Stakes where, despite finishing seventh of 10, she was beaten only 2.9 lengths by the smart Bangkok Hottie.

That form should stack up strongly for this assignment and the apparent drop in grade looks significant.

She profiles as one of the big improvers of the day.

 

Lazura

The motivational alignment is again strong here for Chris Waller, with the influential Surace family having the capacity to continue sending high-quality stock his way.

She was well backed first-up, firming from $3.50 into $2.90 before running a solid third of eight at this track.

That performance should have brought her right on and she now looks perfectly positioned to peak second-up.

She has promised plenty in previous preparations and this could finally be the campaign where she explodes.

J Mac sticks. Yes.

 

St Gotthard

Was heavily backed first-up in the key lead-up, The Run To The Rose, and produced an excellent performance to finish second of 11 in a high-quality contest.

He travelled like the winner for much of the race before his condition appeared to give out over the final 100m, which can easily be forgiven first-up.

He should take enormous improvement from that effort and you can expect Chris Waller has poured the work into him since, with the grand final now firmly in sight.

J Mac sticks aboard for the high-profile ownership group and the motivational alignment to deliver on the big stage is sky-high.

Expect him to be cherry ripe.
