Last weekend’s racing at Caulfield and Rosehill, combined with the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale at Riverside, has set the stage beautifully for another huge Saturday of action.

The Festival of Racing is well and truly here.

Flemington headlines the day with the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, supported by two Group 2 races (C.S. Hayes and Frances Tressady Stakes) and three Listed events.

It is a stacked program at Headquarters.

 

Randwick matches it with serious quality, featuring three Group 2 contests — the Light Fingers, Expressway and Apollo Stakes — plus the Group 3 Triscay Stakes.

There is depth and betting opportunities right across the card.

 

The Apollo Stakes always brings back memories of Anamoe’s dominant win during the 2022/23 season, one of my favourites in recent years.

This year, all eyes are on short-priced favourite Autumn Glow at $1.60.

Can she blow them away in her toughest test to date, or does another quality galloper rise to the occasion?

 

 

At Flemington, the Black Caviar Lightning sees a small but elite field, with five three-year-olds taking on seasoned older sprinters down the straight 1000m.

Giga Kick returns after two strong spring wins and, if anywhere near his best, is capable of winning.

Godolphin colt Tentyris was outstanding in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and looks primed to add another major to his page.

 

 

A cracking day awaits across both venues.

Race 1 – Dual Win Play

No.1 Zambales ($2.30)

Looked a coming winner second-up in Sydney and appears to have upside. Happy to back to win.

No.5 Shah Jahan ($4.20)

Must respect the stable. Trialled well and worth a saver if the favourite is vulnerable.

 

Race 2 – Best Value

No.1 Chasing Aphrodite ($18)

Henry Dwyer should have him fit enough first-up over 2000m.

Drawn to secure a soft run behind the speed.

At double-figure odds, looks a genuine winning chance and outstanding value.

 

Race 4 – Triple Win Play

No.6 Jennyanydots ($7.50)

Maps for a soft run and can take control at some point down the straight. Strong chance to hold on.

 

No.1 Photograph ($7.50)

Settles back but, if sharp first-up, can run over the top late.

 

No.9 Jakivy ($13)

Needs to step up in grade but gets weight relief and profiles as a blowout chance.

 

Race 9 – Dual Win Play

No.9 Asakura ($6.00)

Produced very good closing splits last campaign and has upside to go through the grades.

Looks well placed.

 

No.1 West Of Swindon ($10)

Only one win from eight but has contested strong races. Could be ready to fire first-up at 1400m.

 

RANDWICK

Race 2

No.2 Rantan ($7.00)

Strong first-up record and well suited at the distance. Will go back from the draw but can flash late if tempo is genuine.

 

Race 7

No.1 Angel Capital ($4.00)

Four from four first-up. Should stalk the speed and be produced at the right time. Profiles perfectly.

 

Race 8

No.7 Autumn Glow ($1.60)

Unbeaten and clearly the class runner.

Toughest test to date, but she has looked the complete package. Short quote but hard to knock.

 

Race 9 – Dual Win Play

No.6 Tulleries ($15)

Strong first-up performer who can run well at odds.

 

No.9 Dark Glitter ($51)

Also effective fresh. At big odds, worth including in wider plays.
