Daniel Pryor Saturday Horse Racing Tips 19/9/26

Spring racing is well and truly heating up, and last Saturday delivered another outstanding day of Group racing at Flemington and Rosehill.

At Headquarters, Sheza Alibi justified her $1.60 quote in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes, putting the race away in impressive fashion for the Moody/Coleman stable.

She looked to have the result under control a long way from home and continues to establish herself as one of the headline horses of the spring.

Autumn Boy again ran a huge race in second, with Another Wil filling third at big odds and Sir Delius fourth.

 

 

The Group 3 Lexus Archer Stakes also carried major significance, with a Melbourne Cup start awaiting the winner. Shockletz was heavily supported throughout betting before delivering for punters, with Harry Coffey timing his run perfectly after 100/1 leader Chief Little Rock set them a serious task out in front.

Other Group winners at Flemington included Satono Glow $7, Paradoxium $3, Losesomewinmore $11 and Pondalowie at a massive $51.

And yes, the early crow got me!

 

 

I was riding a 110/1 two-leg multi with On Display and Warwoven. On Display looked home before everything changed inside the final 50m.

The early crow is a real thing!

Rosehill produced plenty of quality as well, with Warwoven controlling the Run To The Rose alongside Rachel King and proving too strong for favourite St Gotthard, with Under Focus and Central Europe filling the next two positions.

 

 

Skyhook, Persian Wonder at $19 and Savvy Hallie at $21 were the other Group winners on the card.

Plenty of strong form lines came out of both meetings and they'll be important as we head deeper into the spring.

 

 

Daniel Pryor’s Around The Grounds – Caulfield & Randwick

Now we turn our attention to another massive Saturday of racing at Caulfield and Randwick.

Caulfield hosts two Group 1 features, headed by the Underwood Stakes over 1800m at weight-for-age and the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m.

The three-year-olds also get their chance to make a statement. The fillies tackle the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude, while the colts and geldings line up in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude. The Group 3 How Now Stakes for the mares and Naturalism Stakes for the stayers add further depth to an outstanding program.

At Randwick, there are another four Group 2 races plus a Group 3, with Autumn Glow the headline act in the Seven Sunrise Stakes. She faces only four rivals and looks extremely difficult to knock off despite the quality around her.

The Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes is another cracking contest. Chilly Girl is looking to bounce back, while Bangkok Hottie and Striking Alibi bring strong form into a race with plenty of depth beyond the leading chances.

It's another huge day of thoroughbred racing and, with the confidence building this spring, there are several runners I'm keen to launch into at value.

This Saturday – Caulfield & Randwick

Caulfield

Race 4 – #8 Tolaga Bay – $5.00

Tolaga Bay is unbeaten from two career starts and can make it three from three here.

The early market support has been strong, firming from $7.50 into $5, and the map should give him every opportunity.

He can roll forward from the gates and find a position just behind the speed before getting his chance to strike in the straight.

He's still lightly raced with plenty of upside and can continue his winning sequence.

 

Race 6 – #3 Point Barrow – $4.80

Point Barrow finds the right race to get back into the winner's circle.

His record at the track and distance demands respect, while his second-up profile is another significant positive.

He brings ultra-strong form lines for this grade and should be ready to produce a much stronger performance with the benefit of his return.

All things being equal, Point Barrow should be one of the strongest through the line.

 

Race 7 – #5 Cosmic Crusader – $2.50

The Group 1 Underwood Stakes doesn't appear to contain a huge amount of natural speed, which makes the tactics fascinating.

I can't see William Pike allowing likely leader Lindermann to get too far away. Cosmic Crusader should be close enough when they turn for home to unleash his finish.

He's chasing the second Group 1 victory of his career and his first in Victoria, and the exposed form says he's going to take plenty of beating.

He likes Caulfield and his previous Group 1 victory came over this 1800m distance.

Cosmic Crusader is the one to beat.

 

Randwick

Race 4 – #6 Stealth Of Night – $16

Stealth Of Night has missed the placings just once in 10 career starts, which shows how consistently she performs.

The blinkers go on for the first time and that gear change could prove significant.

She has the tactical speed to take up a forward position and, when she's able to get into her rhythm near the speed, she can be extremely difficult to run down.

Her best performances put her right in this race and $16 represents a very attractive price.

 

Race 5 – #1 Headley Grange – $3.80

Headley Grange rises in weight, but it's difficult to ignore what he produced first-up.

He was dominant late when winning over this Randwick track and distance and now gets the opportunity to build on that performance second-up.

His second-up statistics are strong and a repeat of his fresh performance will make him extremely difficult to beat.

He's favourite for good reason.

 

Race 6 – #12 Juja Kibo – $9.50

Juja Kibo should improve significantly from his first-up third behind Narbold in the Rowley Mile.

He spent much of that race three-wide without cover around midfield yet continued to give through the line.

A trial placing between runs should have kept him right up to the mark for this second-up assignment.

The draw is another positive. He can find a much more economical position closer to the speed and, with the tempo looking only moderate, should get every chance to produce his sprint when it matters.

At $9.50, Juja Kibo looks a strong value chance.

 

Race 10 – #7 Nepo Baby – $13

Nepo Baby resumes and flies fresh.

The wide barrier presents a challenge, but she has enough early speed to work across and take up a prominent position.

If she can get across without spending too much petrol, she should be among the first four turning for home and can make the opposition chase her all the way to the line.

Don't underestimate her first-up at $13.
