Daniel Pryor Saturday Horse Racing Tips 21/3/26

The build up to this Saturday is enormous and rightly so.

With Rosehill hosting five Group 1 races headlined by the Golden Slipper for the two-year-olds, along with three Group 3 races and a Listed event, it shapes as a complete day of top tier racing.

Caulfield more than holds its own with two Group 2 races, multiple Group races and the feature sprint, the Group 1 William Reid Stakes over 1200m.

Traditionally run at Moonee Valley, the shift to Caulfield adds another layer of intrigue.

It is hard to top what we saw last week, but this program gives it a serious shake.

 

Confidence is high heading into the weekend after Lazzura delivered as the Top Rated and Featured Runner, taking out the Group 1 Coolmore Classic.

It was a strong watch for punters, and once again James McDonald was at the centre of it.

He now edges closer to Damien Oliver’s Australian Group 1 riding record and has a genuine opportunity to level or surpass it this weekend with a strong book of rides.

 

 

One of those rides could produce another headline moment, with Autumn Glow aiming to make it 11 wins from 11 starts in the George Ryder.

She continues to look a class above and her racing pattern suggests she is still improving.

The key question for the stable will be whether she stretches to 2000m for the Queen Elizabeth or remains around a mile this preparation.

 

 

The Golden Slipper remains as open as it has been in years.

There is no clear standout juvenile and the barrier draw has only added to the complexity, with many of the well fancied runners drawing wide.

That raises questions around tempo and race shape, which now looks likely to be stronger than initially expected.

It is a race full of moving parts and one that will test punters right up until jump time.

Aeliana shapes as a major player stepping to 2000m in the Ranvet Stakes.

She was identified as a coming winner earlier in the preparation and now gets her chance at the trip.

With no Autumn Glow in this race, she looks well placed, although Sir Delius looms as a serious threat and there are enough chances in the race to suggest it will not be straightforward.

The Rosehill Guineas is another feature steeped in history, with recent winners including The Autumn Sun, Anamoe, Riff Rocket and Broadsiding.

This year’s edition again looks strong, with Observer and Autumn Boy attracting market support, while Federalist brings an interesting profile backing up off a solid second behind Sixties.

The Galaxy looks one of the most competitive races on the card. It is effectively a market where you can make a case for a number of runners.

Briasa resumes for Team Hawkes and has a solid fresh record, while Generosity comes off a strong win and retains James McDonald.

Marhoona returned well first up and will strip fitter, while Grafterburners brings strong Queensland form. It is a race that will appeal to punters looking for value.

 

 

At Caulfield, the William Reid Stakes presents a fascinating contest.

Jimmysstar returns as favourite from barrier one, but there is a query around how the race sets up for him if he finds himself restricted along the rail.

That opens the door for value elsewhere. Angel Capital appeals at double figure odds after a solid effort down the straight last start where he did not have clear running.

There is also depth through the race with first up runners such as Rey Magnerio, Airman, Magic Time and Charm Stone, along with last start winners Tropicus and Jigsaw, and Baraqiel who looks to improve second up.
