Daniel Pryor Saturday Horse Racing Tips 2/5/26

The Group 1 action last week centred around Morphettville and it certainly delivered.

The Sangster Stakes produced a thrilling finish, with five runners across the line in a blanket result.

Geegees Mistruth got the job done at big odds, edging out Bridal Waltz, Charm Stone and the unlucky Flying For Fun, who charged late but just ran out of time.

The Australasian Oaks was another quality contest, with the dominant combination of Chris Waller and James McDonald striking again.

Panova was strong through the line to score at double-figure odds, ahead of Mating Call and Paltrow Miss, with the favourite Getta Good Feeling unable to fire.

Morphettville

The Group 1 action stays in South Australia this week with the SA Derby over the staying trip. It looks a wide-open affair with multiple chances depending on how the race unfolds.

Race 8

• #14 After Summer $6

• #10 Arabian Prince $26

• #7 Amazake $18

• #1 Single Choice $14

• #3 Kaye Jay $14

 

Bendigo

Bendigo takes centre stage in Victoria with a strong 10-race program headlined by the Golden Mile and Guineas.

It looks a competitive card with plenty of value on offer.

 

Race 3

• #7 Nearing Liberty $12

Has a strong first-up profile and has performed well at this track previously.

His form last campaign stacks up well, and while the 1300m is slightly short of his best range, he should be finishing strongly and is one to follow deeper into the prep.

 

Race 5 (2 Selections)

• #6 Lady Jones $5

• #7 Roll On High $5

Lady Jones returns after racing in stronger company last prep and brings solid form lines into this.

Her last run had merit given she was wide throughout and still stuck on well.

She maps to get a much softer run here and looks well placed.

 

Roll On High resumes and looks set for a strong first-up showing.

With two trials under the belt and blinkers back on, he should be primed.

His previous campaign featured Group and Listed level racing, which gives him a class edge in this field.

 

Eagle Farm

We head north to Eagle Farm where the Queensland Winter Carnival begins to build, with Group and Listed racing on the card.

 

Race 2

• #5 Saint Emilion $5

Looks ready to win. He should settle just off the speed and his last two runs suggest he is building nicely towards a peak performance.

 

Race 4

• #2 Belvedere Boys $11

Steps up in distance and will strip much fitter after his first-up run where he finished off well.

With a 3kg claim and a likely genuine tempo, he should be ridden quietly and given every chance to finish strongly late.

 

Hawkesbury

The feature meeting in New South Wales heads to Hawkesbury with a competitive 10-race program featuring multiple Group 3 races.

 

Race 6

• #1 Skyhook $3.30

Should be nearing peak fitness now third-up.

Has competed in strong races throughout his career and while the 1400m is a test, he has the class to measure up.

 

Race 10

• #9 Sly Boots $26

A genuine value play. He resumes here at 1400m following two trials, including a win.

From a wide draw he should settle back, but with a strong tempo expected, he can be finishing hard late and give a big sight at odds.
