Daniel Pryor Saturday Horse Racing Tips 26/9/26

The spring thoroughbred racing action rolls on this weekend, and I’ve gone through three meetings across two huge days of racing.

Plenty of punters will have one eye firmly fixed on the AFL Grand Final on Saturday, but the racing comes first for me, with Golden Rose Day at Rosehill and a strong Mornington card before we back up for Group 1 Manikato Stakes Day at Caulfield on Sunday.

Last Saturday gave subscribers plenty to cheer about, with 10 winners from 19 races.

Autumn Glow again showed her class at Randwick, taking up the running and controlling proceedings despite Gringotts applying pressure on her outside.

That pressure eventually told on Gringotts, while Autumn Glow kicked clear inside the final 200m and won comfortably.

There should be some strong form to follow out of those chasing her home.

 

 

Another highlight at Randwick was General Salute at $14.30, with subscribers getting the benefit of a terrific value result.

Then it was off to Caulfield, where sticking with Angel Capital paid off in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

He finally broke through at the top level under a brilliant Ben Melham ride.

 

 

Melham completed a Group 1 double after earlier partnering Birdman to victory in the Underwood Stakes, with Chris Waller training both feature winners.

 

 

Now attention turns to another massive weekend.

Saturday's Rosehill card is headlined by the Group 1 Golden Rose, while Mornington provides another competitive betting program.

Then on Sunday, the Group 1 Manikato Stakes moves from its traditional Moonee Valley home to Caulfield and has attracted a deep field with plenty of winning chances.

The card also features some quality Group 2, Group 3 and Listed racing, including a fascinating Feehan Stakes where Pride Of Jenni resumes against Mr Brightside and Treasurethemoment.

It's a massive sporting weekend with plenty to get stuck into.

Daniel Pryor’s Around The Grounds – Rosehill, Mornington & Caulfield 26/9/26

Saturday – Rosehill

Race 3 – #2 Bella Montagna – $2.30

Bella Montagna has had two runs this preparation and should now be ready to peak after campaigning in Brisbane during the winter, where she narrowly missed against her stablemate at Group 3 level over this distance.

The blinkers go on for the first time, which looks a positive, and she should settle close enough to the speed to be right there when the pressure goes on.

I've got her favourite in my market and she should prove very hard to beat.

 

Race 6 – #3 Omolong – $4.00

Omolong resumes looking to protect an unbeaten record after two soft trials in preparation for his return.

His latest trial was particularly encouraging. He went to the line under a good hold and appeared to have plenty left to offer.

Hopefully that extra gear has been saved for race day.

Expect him to be charging home late and trying to reel in likely leader and favourite Blue Door.

 

Race 7 – #4 Gangsta Granny – $4.60

Gangsta Granny looked back to her best when finishing second behind Savvy Hallie after a disappointing first-up performance.

She found an ideal position behind the leaders that day and should be able to secure a similar run in transit here.

With that improvement under her belt, Gangsta Granny can go one better.

 

Race 7 – #1 Lazzura – $2.15

Lazzura finished third behind Savvy Hallie and Gangsta Granny last start and again looks set to play a major role.

James McDonald retains the ride and she should find a similar position in running before getting her opportunity to pounce in the straight.

She's favourite for good reason and will be in this for a long way.

Saturday – Mornington

Race 1 – #6 Naina – $5.00

Naina is one of only two runners in the field with previous Mornington experience and the only one to have won at the track.

She was good last start when held up before finishing third as favourite and should bounce nicely into this assignment.

If she gets clear running approaching the turn, Naina will be very hard to toss.

 

Race 3 – #1 Keep Your Cool – $9.00

Keep Your Cool is an honest mare who resumes with plenty in her favour.

She races well over the Mornington track and distance, has a solid fresh record and has produced two good trials ahead of her return.

The draw should allow her to find an economical position before getting her opportunity in the straight.

I've marked her around $6, making the $9 available genuine value.

 

Race 5 – #7 Federer – $4.60

Federer is a nicely bred galloper who has promised a little more than he's delivered so far, but this looks a good opportunity to put it all together.

He gets some weight relief and finds a race where he should receive every chance to break through.

I've marked him around his current market price and this is his opportunity to deliver.

 

Race 6 – #8 Hurry Curry – $9.00

Third-up and out to 2400m looks a great recipe for Hurry Curry.

He's already proven over the distance and has shown enough to suggest he can develop into a promising staying type.

The inside draw gives him every chance to conserve energy and be right there when the race gets serious.

I've marked him around $5.15, so the $9 available looks excellent value.

 

Sunday – Caulfield

Race 6 – #1 Diameter – $3.50

Diameter should have finished considerably closer at Flemington last start.

He spent much of the straight searching for clear running and was never fully tested. With better luck, he could easily have gone close to winning at a good price.

The 1600m is ideal, with his two previous runs at the distance producing a win and a third, while the booking of James McDonald is another major positive.

With clear running this time, Diameter should be right in the finish.

 

Race 7 – #2 Too Darn Discreet – $6.00

Too Darn Discreet returned in terrific order, going within a whisker of winning first-up despite starting at double-figure odds.

That performance should bring her on nicely second-up and the form looks strong enough for this assignment.

The wide draw means she'll likely settle back before looking to unleash late.

I've marked her at a similar price to the market and expect her to be storming home.

 

Race 9 – #1 War Machine – $5.00

War Machine backs up a week after tackling the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

He raced wide and keenly there, which prevented him from finishing the race off as strongly as expected.

The jockey sticks and he now drops back to Listed company third-up, where he should be much better suited.

He's won two of four previous third-up runs and gets his chance to bounce straight back.
