Last Saturday’s Group 1 action at Caulfield delivered quality racing across the board.

All three feature winners, Pericles, Streisand and Tropicus, claimed their maiden Group 1 victories.

Pericles broke through at the elite level at his 16th attempt, Tropicus was dominant in the Oakleigh Plate, and Streisand delivered trainer Clinton McDonald his second Blue Diamond in three editions.

 

 

Rosehill may not have staged a Group 1, but the depth of racing was outstanding.

Victorian juvenile Stretan Ruler travelled north for Phillip Stokes and stamped himself as a Golden Slipper contender with a commanding 3.5-length win.

 

 

Ninja controlled the Hobartville Stakes from just off the speed, while the Millie Fox saw race-fit Cinsault outgun Lazzura in a tight finish.

The Group 3 Canterbury Stakes provided another highlight, with Piggyback (Free Tip) well supported from $6 into $3 before winning, while $61 chance Bois D’argent (Full Package selection) ran second and nearly caused a boilover.

Momentum is strong heading into another huge Saturday.

Randwick – Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m)

Autumn Glow headlines the day, chasing her 10th straight win after a dominant 1400m victory last start.

The Chris Waller-trained mare continues to raise the bar and looks intent on extending her unbeaten streak.

The stable also fields Aeliana, a mare who has shown high-class ability, while Sir Delius from the Waterhouse/Bott camp adds intrigue after a strong spring campaign that included wins in the Underwood and Turnbull Stakes.

It shapes as a fascinating contest.

 

Flemington – Australian Guineas

The Group 1 Australian Guineas brings together a compact market with several runners at single-figure odds.

The trifecta and novelty plays may be centred around those favoured runners, but it remains a race where tactical positioning and race tempo will prove decisive.

Meets stronger opposition but gains James McDonald and profiles strongly.

No.4 Warwoven ($2.10)

Current Golden Slipper favourite.

Freshened after two impressive wins and if successful here, his Slipper price shortens again.

 

Race 10

Roselyn’s Star ($4.50)

Consistent this preparation with two runner-up finishes.

Apprentice claim assists and he gets another opportunity to break through.
