Last weekend’s racing was a punter’s dream, with six Group 1 races delivering elite action across Caulfield and Rosehill.

It was a day that produced standout performances and history in the making.

The headline story was James McDonald, who needed just two Group 1 wins to surpass Damien Oliver’s long-standing record of 129.

He achieved exactly that, breaking the record aboard Autumn Boy in the Rosehill Guineas after earlier saluting on Aeliana in the Ranvet Stakes.

He capped it off with a dominant ride on Autumn Glow, who extended her unbeaten record to 11 from 11 in style.

 

 

Down in Melbourne, Treasurethemoment returned to form with a comfortable Group 2 win in the Sunline Stakes, while the Group 1 William Reid Stakes saw Jigsaw control the race from the front.

Notably, Angel Capital, one of the selections, ran a huge race at odds to finish second.

 

 

Feature Racing Outlook

This Saturday delivers three Group 1 races across the two major jurisdictions.

At Flemington, the Australian Cup over 2000m headlines the card. Pride Of Jenni looks set to control the tempo, with Tom Kitten again a major player following his All-Star Mile win. Light Infantry Man looks to go back-to-back, while Waller’s Birdman and Leica Lucy add further depth. Apulia also brings strong, consistent form into the race.

Rosehill hosts the Tancred Stakes and Vinery Stud Stakes, supported by a strong undercard of Group racing.

Dubai Honour returns to defend his Tancred crown, taking on the ultra-fit Aeliana backing up from last week. Vauban and Soul Of Spain add further intrigue.

In the Vinery, the Kiwi fillies loom large, with OHope Wins and Belle Cheval both capable, while Panova and Salty Pearl bring strong local form.
