Spring is officially up and running, and last Saturday delivered both on the track and in the wallet with eight winners across Caulfield and Rosehill.

The Group 1 Memsie Stakes saw Beiwacht produce a dominant front-running display under Nash Rawiller, controlling the 1400m before putting three lengths on a quality field.

Mr Brightside showed there is still plenty of fight left with a strong second, while Cosmic Crusader continued his excellent preparation by working home into third.

Treasurethemoment held fourth and should only improve as she gets deeper into her campaign.

At Rosehill, Golden Slipper winner Guest House made a huge statement on return in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes, breaking the 1100m track record that had stood since 2007.

He looks destined for some serious three-year-old races this spring, while the form behind him will be worth following.

This Saturday, attention turns to Sandown Hillside for the Group 1 Moir Stakes, which has moved from its traditional Moonee Valley home.

Former Everest winner Giga Kick returns, exciting lightweight Natural Fling gets her first crack at Group 1 company, while My Gladiola and Point Barrow are two lightly raced sprinters with plenty of upside.

Randwick is equally stacked with four Group 2 races and plenty of quality spread throughout the card.

The smell of spring is in the air. Here are this week's free tips.

Around The Grounds with Daniel Pryor – Sandown Hillside & Randwick 4/9/26

Sandown Hillside

Race 2 – #2 Celestial Zara – $4.00

Celestial Zara gets the chance to make her own luck up on speed.

She tackles 1600m for the first time, but the distance looks suitable and she should relish the surface.

If she can control proceedings before increasing the pressure approaching the turn, she could pinch a break and prove very difficult to run down.

Race 7 – #2 Evaporate – $2.25

Evaporate is the current favourite and looks to have found the right race.

He comes through the P.B. Lawrence Stakes and that form should stack up strongly against this opposition.

He brings the ratings required to win and, with the benefit of his fresh run, gets every opportunity to put another victory on the board.

Race 7 – #7 Pinstriped – $5.25

Pinstriped also comes through the P.B. Lawrence, where he was making ground after being slightly held up at an important stage.

He reaches this assignment third-up and should now be approaching peak fitness.

If he can reproduce something close to his best form, $5.25 gives us a second strong chance in the race.

Race 8 – #7 My Gladiola – $6.00

My Gladiola is a lightly raced four-year-old mare with plenty of upside over the sprinting trips.

She's been trialling well ahead of her return and looks capable of progressing quickly this preparation.

The forecast rain is the slight query, but everything else points towards a strong first-up performance.

Race 8 – #8 Point Barrow – $11.00

Point Barrow has already built an impressive record with five wins from nine career starts and is particularly effective over 1000m.

She races well fresh and has shown she can handle some give in the ground, although a genuinely Heavy surface would present a new challenge.

Daniel Stackhouse is still chasing his first Group 1 victory and gets a genuine opportunity here.

At $11, Point Barrow brings plenty of value into an open Moir Stakes.

Race 8 – #1 Giga Kick – $4.40

Giga Kick has the established ratings to be a major player and has been trialling well ahead of his return.

He handles rain-affected ground, and while the sharp 1000m is the slight negative, the switch to Sandown gives him a long straight to balance up and build through his gears.

If he's close enough when they straighten, expect him to be charging at them late.

Randwick

Race 7 – #1 Headley Grange – $4.60

Headley Grange has several important factors in his favour first-up.

He handles all surfaces, races well fresh and has a strong record at Randwick.

Barrier one should allow him to conserve energy on the rail and potentially get a charmed run into the race.

He'll need the gaps to appear at the right time, but once they do, expect him to explode late.

Race 9 – #9 Fangirl – $3.50

Fangirl should improve significantly from her unplaced first-up performance.

There doesn't appear to be a huge amount of tempo here, which could actually allow her to settle close enough before unleashing her trademark sprint.

The Chris Waller and James McDonald combination is another obvious positive.

With that first-up run behind her, she's a leading winning chance.

Race 9 – #1 Ceolwulf – $3.20

Ceolwulf should also benefit considerably from his first-up run in the Winx Stakes.

His second-up record is strong and both the track and distance are major positives.

The potential lack of tempo isn't ideal, but he brings enough quality to overcome that and remains one of the clear winning chances.

Race 10 – #3 Fortune – $23.00

Fortune is the big-priced runner I'm prepared to forgive.

He didn't finish his race off last start despite settling in a good position, but returning to a metropolitan track should suit.

Only three and four starts ago he wasn't far away from St George on two occasions, and that form has continued to stand up in Melbourne.

I've got Fortune marked considerably shorter than the price being offered, and there has already been some early support.

At around $23, he's well worth including.

Race 10 – #8 Starzintheireyes – $3.40

Starzintheireyes is the current favourite and has shown plenty of ability through his first three Australian starts.

The query is the drop back to 1600m when much of his exposed form revolves around 1800m and beyond.

Even so, his overall form lines are strong enough to suggest he can perform at the mile and he demands respect.

Race 10 – #5 Sneaky Sunrise – $9.00

Sneaky Sunrise produced a good first-up performance at Caulfield despite finishing around midfield.

That form has already received a boost, with the runner-up coming out and winning impressively at Caulfield last Saturday.

She should improve with that run under her belt and can be working home strongly second-up.

At $9, she's another value chance in an open race.
