What a weekend of racing it was that rounded out the month of February.
Now we launch into March and in essence, a multitude of races ahead to dissect.
The quality was evident again last weekend with several outstanding performances.
Autumn Glow made it 10 wins from 10 starts in the Verry Elleegant Stakes.
Punters collectively expected it and she did not disappoint, cruising to the line under James McDonald virtually untouched.
Stablemate Aeliana chased hard to finish second and looks close to a victory of her own, especially if she finds a race without Autumn Glow in the field and possibly over a little more distance.
The Australian Guineas at Flemington was a tactical affair with Observer holding on from the fast-finishing Planet Red, while Sixties also loomed as the winner at one stage.
From a tipping perspective, the Full Tip Package nailed the First Four, with Victorious Spirit running into fourth not far away.
At Rosehill, Tempted needed the full 1400 metres to run down Savvy Hallie in the Surround Stakes, with the pair producing a thrilling finish down the straight.
Daniel Pryor – Saturday Feature Racing Preview 6/3/26
Flemington & Randwick | Saturday 7 March
Saturday 7 March features four Group 1 races, two at Flemington and two at Randwick.
At Flemington the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) takes centre stage down the famous straight, alongside the All-Star Mile (1600m), a race that has grown quickly in stature since its introduction in 2019.
Tom Kitten now has the opportunity to go back-to-back, while both he and Pride Of Jenni could become the first dual winners of the race.
Meanwhile the Newmarket Handicap boasts a rich honour roll including Black Caviar, Belle De Jour, Exceed And Excel, Alinghi, Takeover Target, Miss Andretti, Weekend Hussler, Scenic Blast, Sunlight and Bivouac.
Last year’s winner Joliestar appears in Sydney this weekend as the favourite in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
At Randwick, the Randwick Guineas for the three-year-olds also shapes as a race worth following closely.
A visiting filly from Melbourne for the Moody/Coleman stable brings strong form and will be difficult to beat if she reproduces her latest effort.
Ninja has never missed the placings from seven starts and won impressively last time out.
Autumn Boy (Caulfield Guineas winner) and Attica were both closing strongly behind him, while Rivellino wasn’t far away and may appreciate the rise in distance.
It shapes as an outstanding day of racing and I’m confident we can get a few early winners to kick things off.
Daniel Pryor – Free Tips & Selections
Flemington
Race 1
No.1 Legacy Bound ($2.70)
Top rated runner resuming from a spell. His first-up record reads two wins from two starts and he looks capable of making that three from three.
Race 2 – Triple Win Play
No.4 Wiggum ($51)
Big odds but has winning straight-track form previously.
If he produces his top ratings he can surprise at a big price.
No.9 Verdoux ($4.50)
Good winner first-up at Caulfield and if he reproduces that performance down the Flemington straight he will be there for a long way.
Has only had one unplaced start at this track, so the profile stacks up.
No.7 Codigo ($13)
Will be winding up late and with clear running should be finishing strongly at double-figure odds.
Race 3
No.3 Jadzia ($6)
First starter with a bit of a boom around her. Has been scratched a few times after winning a couple of recent trials and now debuts down the straight which should suit.
No.2 Medicinal ($2.60)
Form through Streisand reads very well.
Improved sharply between runs to win easily second-up and with further improvement could be hard to beat.
Race 5 – Dual Win Play
No.2 Sass Appeal ($2.30)
First attempt at 1600m but deserves favouritism on exposed form. Likely to settle on pace and will be difficult to run down.
No.7 Lathlain ($7.50)
Only four career starts and was quickly tested at Listed and Group 3 level after winning on debut.
Returned with a dominant five-length win at Seymour and the trainer/jockey combination is lethal.
Race 7 – Group 1 All-Star Mile Selections
No.9 Stefi Magnetica ($7)
No.10 Treasurethemoment ($5)
No.1 Tom Kitten ($5.50)
No.4 Evaporate ($13)
I’m playing around Pride Of Jenni with these four selections hoping to land the result.
Randwick
Race 5
No.4 Inkaruna ($3.80)
Drawn the pole and should get a soft run first-up.
If the gaps appear this filly will be charging home late.
Race 6 – Dual Win Play
No.2 Pinito ($4)
Ran on strongly first-up after settling well back, finishing only 2.5 lengths from the winner.
The booking of James McDonald signals the stable thinks she’s ready to win.
No.7 Polymnia ($6.50)
Only one win from fifteen starts but should settle back and will be tracking into the race behind in-form runners. If the tempo is strong she can figure late.
Race 7
No.1 Giga Kick ($2.30)
Top rated runner in this Group 2 by a margin. His first-up run against Tentyris should have brought him on nicely and he looks the one to beat.
