What a weekend of racing we witnessed last Saturday! And what a weekend of results for the followers!

Caulfield and Rosehill delivered everything a racing purist could ask for.

Group 1 upsets, outstanding performances, brilliant jockey rides and some terrific betting opportunities.

Even better, the winners kept rolling in for subscribers, with 16 winners across 20 races and some outstanding dividends along the way.

And now we get to do it all again!

This Saturday brings together two of the biggest events on the Australian racing calendar, with the historic Group 1 Caulfield Cup over 2400m in Melbourne and the spectacular Group 1 Everest over 1200m at Royal Randwick.

Two very different races, two outstanding programs and another massive opportunity for punters.

Before we get into this week's selections, let's revisit some of the highlights from a sensational weekend.

Last Saturday’s Racing Review – Caulfield

Warwoven Wins the Caulfield Guineas

The Group 1 Caulfield Guineas produced a commanding victory from the Bjorn Baker-trained colt Warwoven, who confirmed his enormous potential with a brilliant performance.

With Rachel King aboard, Warwoven proved a class above his rivals, racing away to score by 1.75 lengths.

Blind Raise took up the running and fought on gamely to finish second, while the lightly raced Call Me Coach filled third, some five lengths behind the winner.

Warwoven was outstanding and looks a colt with a big future, while Call Me Coach is another worth keeping an eye on when the autumn carnival arrives.

Land Legend Causes a Might And Power Boilover

The Group 1 Might And Power Stakes attracted a small but talented field, with hot favourite Sheza Alibi expected to continue her winning form.

But racing doesn't always follow the script!

Land Legend, ridden by Ethan Brown, produced one of the upsets of the day, taking control from the front and refusing to surrender.

He led throughout to defeat Sheza Alibi, who was brave in defeat, with a new track record established in the process.

Second favourite Birdman finished third, ahead of Kingswood in fourth.

It was a tremendous performance from Land Legend and another reminder that even the shortest-priced favourites can be vulnerable when the race is run to suit their opposition.

Lady Shenandoah Produces a Toorak Special

The Group 1 Toorak Handicap assembled a deep field, and the finish certainly lived up to expectations.

Lady Shenandoah, with James McDonald in the saddle, produced a brilliant performance to claim the feature.

McDonald had to negotiate a passage through the field before finding the opening at precisely the right moment.

It was one of the rides of the day.

Lady Shenandoah charged through late to defeat Changing Colours, with Welcometotheshow third and Warnie rounding out the first four.

A fantastic Group 1 contest and a deserved victory for a top-class mare.

More Caulfield Winners for the Followers

The Group 1 races weren't the only highlights.

I was also delighted to find several other winners across the program, including:

  • Surfin Bird

  • Pinhole

  • Point Barrow

  • Jigsaw

All four delivered for the followers, helping make it a very profitable afternoon at Caulfield.

Rosehill Review – Group Racing Delivers

There were no Group 1 races at Rosehill last Saturday, but the Group 2, Group 3 and Listed contests produced some outstanding performances.

Satono Glow Stars in the Roman Consul

The Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes belonged to the talented three-year-old filly Satono Glow.

She produced an explosive finishing burst to claim the race, defeating Steel Will and Why So Hard.

Race favourite Paradoxium took up the running but weakened late to finish fourth.

Satono Glow showed genuine class with the way she attacked the line, and her performance was another highlight of the afternoon.

Attrition Reclaims the Hill Stakes

Victorian visitor Attrition continued his remarkable association with the Group 2 Hill Stakes.

Prepared by rising trainer Mitch Freedman, Attrition entered the race fourth-up and once again produced his best at Rosehill.

He had previously won the event in 2024 before finishing runner-up in 2025.

This time, he turned the tables on race favourite Lindermann, wearing him down late to secure another memorable victory.

A tremendous training performance and a terrific result for those who supported him at the $6.50 dividend.

Group 3 Winners Impress

The Group 3 races also produced plenty of excitement.

Proxima Dea looked beaten at one stage in the Gloaming Stakes but rallied strongly to get off the canvas and claim victory.

Gerringong justified favouritism in The Nivison, stretching her neck out at the right time to secure a narrow win.

And in the Alan Brown Stakes, the Archibald-trained Formal Display gave his supporters a fantastic sight, leading throughout and holding on at attractive odds.

All up, a cracking day's racing at Rosehill and another successful afternoon for the subscribers.

This Saturday – Caulfield Cup & The Everest

Now the attention turns to two of Australia's greatest racing events.

The Caulfield Cup has an extraordinary history, while The Everest has quickly become one of the most anticipated races on the calendar.

One is a gruelling 2400m staying contest.

The other is a high-pressure 1200m sprint featuring some of the best horses in the world.

And both promise to deliver!

The Everest – Can Ka Ying Rising Defend His Crown?

The Everest returns to Royal Randwick for its tenth running, with Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising attempting to defend his title.

Trained by David Hayes, the champion sprinter has been installed as a short-priced favourite following his outstanding victory in last year's race.

Since being elevated to Group 1 status in 2024, The Everest has continued to attract an extraordinary calibre of sprinter.

This year's field is another beauty.

The major talking point is the weather.

With plenty of rain falling in Sydney, the big question is whether Ka Ying Rising will be as dominant if Randwick remains genuinely heavy.

There's a significant difference between handling a soft surface and racing on a heavily rain-affected Australian track.

We'll find out just how versatile the champion really is if the conditions remain testing.

Local star Tempted has emerged as the clear second favourite, and she's certainly improved since finishing runner-up in the 2025 edition.

She's in outstanding form and deserves her position near the top of the market.

But this is The Everest, and every runner has earned their place.

It would be dangerous to completely dismiss the other top-class sprinters in the field.

Whatever the result, we're set for another extraordinary contest.

Caulfield Cup – Cosmic Crusader Faces a Big Test

The Group 1 Caulfield Cup over 2400m is one of the most prestigious staying races in Australian racing.

This year's edition has attracted a fascinating group of runners, with several strong form lines converging on the feature.

One of the most important lead-up races is the Turnbull Stakes, which has historically provided a valuable guide to the Caulfield Cup.

This year's Turnbull winner, Cosmic Crusader, arrives in outstanding form after producing a terrific performance at Flemington.

He's been racing brilliantly throughout the preparation and deserves his position at the head of the betting.

The Wizard of the West, William Pike, has been booked for the ride.

However, he'll need to produce something special after Cosmic Crusader drew barrier 17.

That's a challenging starting position in a race where early positioning and the ability to conserve energy can be crucial.

There's no doubting the horse's talent, but the wide draw certainly adds another dimension to the contest.

With plenty of genuine chances and several strong form lines, the Caulfield Cup looks a terrific betting race.

Autumn Glow and Ceolwulf – Another Randwick Highlight

Even with Pride Of Jenni scratched, Randwick still has another mouth-watering contest on the program.

The clash between Autumn Glow and Ceolwulf promises to be one of the highlights outside The Everest.

Autumn Glow has captured the imagination of racing fans, and I'm certainly among her many admirers!

She's a magnificent mare with enormous talent, and watching her take on a proven performer like Ceolwulf should be something special.

Between The Everest, the Caulfield Cup and the supporting races across both meetings, Saturday is shaping up as an absolute feast of racing.

Now, onto this week's free tips!

This Week’s Free Tips

Caulfield – Saturday

Race 3 – #1 GeeGees Mistruth ($2.20)

GeeGees Mistruth looks extremely well placed dropping back to Listed company.

This mare has contested Group 1 races in six of her past seven starts and hasn't been far away against some very strong opposition.

That experience should stand her in excellent stead here.

The application of blinkers for the first time is another interesting factor, and at the handicap ratings she looks very difficult to beat.

The booking of Blake Shinn is a major positive.

With her established class and the equipment change, GeeGees Mistruth gets an excellent opportunity to return to winning form.

A strong winning chance at $2.20.

Race 4 – #9 Kotahitanga ($9.50)

Kotahitanga is a promising galloper who made an excellent impression when breaking through at his second career start.

That maiden victory was full of merit, and there's every reason to expect further improvement.

The inside barrier is a significant advantage.

He should be able to roll forward and either lead or settle in the box seat, giving himself an economical run throughout.

If he can secure that position without doing too much work early, he could prove very difficult to run down.

There has also been some early support in betting since markets opened.

At $9.50, Kotahitanga looks an attractive value runner with plenty of upside.

Race 5 – #2 War Machine ($3.40)

War Machine deserves another chance after a difficult run at his latest appearance.

He was caught wide throughout, making it difficult to produce his best performance.

I'm happy to forgive that effort.

He's had four weeks between runs and looks ready to produce a much stronger performance.

His record over this distance range is encouraging, and he's also a previous winner at Caulfield.

With a more favourable run in transit, he should get every opportunity to work into the finish.

War Machine looks ready to bounce back and will take plenty of beating at $3.40.

Race 5 – #1 Private Eye ($2.45)

Private Eye is a proven performer who brings excellent credentials into this assignment.

He has a strong record at Caulfield and over the distance, and his established class makes him an obvious contender.

He's been installed as favourite for good reason.

With his experience and proven ability, he looks extremely difficult to hold out if he produces anything close to his best.

Private Eye is a major winning chance and the horse War Machine must beat.

Race 6 – #4 Oak Hill ($7)

Oak Hill is one of my more interesting betting propositions at Caulfield.

I was able to secure $10 early, having assessed him at around $6.10 in my own market, and even at the current $7 quote he still has plenty going for him.

He ticks several important boxes.

His first-up record is excellent, he has strong statistics over the 1000m distance and he's already proven himself over this track and trip.

Importantly, he's also one of only two runners in the field to have won at this class level.

That gives him a valuable edge against several rivals still needing to prove themselves in this company.

Oak Hill possesses a powerful finishing burst and should be capable of charging over the top of his opposition if the race is run to suit.

A terrific value opportunity at $7, particularly for those who secured the early $10.

Randwick – Saturday

Race 5 – #12 Chains Of Love ($5.50)

Chains Of Love is a progressive mare who looks capable of taking another step forward.

Her recent form lines stack up well for this assignment, and there's plenty to like about her overall profile.

She's also a beautifully bred mare, with her dam having won at both Group 1 and Listed level.

That pedigree adds another layer of interest to a runner who still appears to be improving.

The wide barrier is the obvious concern, but the booking of talented young jockey Zac Lloyd is a major positive.

Lloyd will need to make the right decisions early, but if he can secure a suitable position, Chains Of Love has the ability to make her presence felt.

At $5.50, she's right in contention.

Race 5 – #2 Chidiac ($5)

Chidiac returns to racing with an outstanding first-up record.

The Country Championships winner from the autumn has won all three previous first-up appearances, making her a particularly interesting runner fresh.

Zac Purton partnered her to that Country Championships success, and this time another world-class jockey takes the reins in James McDonald.

That's a significant booking.

She should be able to secure a favourable position in running, giving herself every opportunity to produce her best.

The track conditions are the main consideration.

Chidiac hasn't previously raced on a Heavy surface, but her record on Soft tracks is excellent, with three wins from five starts.

If Randwick improves into the Soft range, that would certainly strengthen her prospects.

Chidiac looks very hard to beat fresh and is a genuine winning chance at $5.

Race 5 – #8 Considered ($13)

Considered is one of the better-priced runners worth including in Race 5.

The booking of Zac Purton immediately catches the eye, and the mare brings an impressive career record into the contest.

She's won six of her 12 starts, highlighting her ability to consistently convert opportunities into victories.

Her wet-track record is particularly appealing.

Considered has won both previous starts on Heavy ground, making her one of the runners best suited if Randwick remains genuinely rain-affected.

She also has respectable Soft-track statistics, so an upgrade wouldn't necessarily diminish her prospects.

With her ability to finish strongly, she should be doing her best work over the concluding stages.

At $13, Considered looks genuine value and is well worth including in the betting.

Race 6 – #16 Gangsta Granny ($16)

Gangsta Granny is a mare I simply can't overlook at the available odds.

Whether Dylan Gibbons elects to push forward from the wide barrier or settle back and look for cover, I can see her playing a major role in the finish.

She has a strong record at Randwick and over the distance, and her versatility across different track conditions is another important advantage.

That gives her a genuine opportunity regardless of how much the surface improves before race time.

The biggest attraction is the price.

At $16, she's being offered at around double my assessed market price.

That's the sort of discrepancy I love finding in a competitive race.

The barrier presents a challenge, but her ability and record suggest she's capable of overcoming it.

Gangsta Granny is a terrific value runner and looks right in the mix at big odds.

Race 6 – #15 Marhoona ($5.50)

Marhoona looks well positioned to produce a strong performance after drawing barrier five.

With Jamie Melham booked to ride, she should be able to settle just behind the speed and enjoy an economical run.

That could prove particularly important in a competitive sprint where early positioning and finding clear running at the right time will be crucial.

The ideal scenario is for Marhoona to box seat before working into the clear approaching the home straight.

The only significant question surrounds the potential Heavy track.

She hasn't previously raced on a Heavy surface, although there is some encouragement through her pedigree.

Her sire Snitzel won on Heavy ground and has produced numerous wet-track winners.

That doesn't guarantee she'll handle the conditions, but it provides some reason for optimism.

Marhoona should enjoy a favourable run and looks capable of featuring prominently at $5.50.

Race 6 – #7 Beadman ($8)

Beadman is another runner who could become particularly dangerous if Randwick remains Heavy.

His only previous start on a Heavy surface resulted in a Group 3 victory by more than eight lengths.

That's an extraordinary performance and a significant form reference heading into Saturday.

If the track remains in that range, he could prove very difficult to beat.

However, he's not solely reliant on Heavy ground to perform well.

Beadman has the versatility to race close to the speed or settle further back and finish strongly, depending on how the race unfolds.

That tactical flexibility gives his rider options, particularly if the track pattern changes throughout the meeting.

He's capable of making his presence felt regardless of the final track rating.

At $8, Beadman is a serious contender and cannot be underestimated.
