Caulfield returns with the track rated Good, the rail back to TRUE, and plenty of intrigue around how the surface plays.
At the late-November meeting with the rail at 9m, the track was fair but runners clearly edged away from the inside as the day wore on.
Since then, Caulfield has had renovations and a decent break, meaning there is fresh ground inside and with very hot weather forecast, there’s a genuine chance that on-pace runners and those closer to the rail could hold a stronger advantage if the track firms quickly.
Historically, Caulfield played exceptionally well throughout Spring, so expecting a fair but tactical surface.
David Gately – Caulfield Best Bets Preview
Bet of the Day – Caulfield
Race 10 No.5 – TOUCHDOWN
Building a terrific record and was simply too good last start in a soft win.
Previously beat two subsequent winners, including Fiorenot, who then turned around and ran over Yes I Know at Flemington last week.
Progressive, maps well, and profiles as a horse still on the way up.
Clear top pick.
Best Value Bet – Caulfield
Race 8 No.10 – CONSCIENCE
Slow out and forced to chase in an on-pace dominated race fresh, yet still produced a strong last 600m and ranked top-10 for the final 200m on the day.
Fitter now, gets to 1200m, and this filly has genuine upside.
At around $12, she’s clearly overs.
