Group 3 racing takes centre stage at Rosehill on Saturday, with the Five Diamonds over 1800m bringing together a competitive field of proven performers and progressive gallopers.

The form through the Five Diamonds Prelude looks particularly important, with Declichy Boulevard, Linebacker and Plymouth all coming through that race.

However, Gator is keen on a runner at double-figure odds who has been racing better than his recent results suggest.

Welcometotheshow ($10) has produced two performances that deserve closer inspection, and the step up to 1800m looks well within his capabilities.

With a few genuine winning chances engaged, this shapes as an interesting betting race.

David Gately Five Diamonds Preview & Best Bets 6/11/26

Rosehill Track Conditions & Weather

ROSEHILL TRACK CONDITIONS
SATURDAY | GROUP 3 FIVE DIAMONDS
Expected Track RatingGood
Rail PositionTrue
WeatherWarm, possible late rain
WindStrong SSW

Rosehill is expected to race on a Good surface on Saturday, with the rail returning to the True position after being out 4m at the most recent meeting.

The track has been playing well with the rail in the True position, so there are no major concerns with the surface itself.

However, the weather could play a significant role in how the meeting unfolds.

Saturday is forecast to be warm, with the possibility of rain developing during the afternoon and evening.

The more immediate consideration is the strong south-southwesterly wind, which could have a greater influence on racing patterns than the rail position.

That wind should provide runners with something of a tailwind over their left shoulder in the home straight, potentially assisting horses building momentum late.

It's something I'll be monitoring closely throughout the meeting, particularly when assessing the performances of horses settling off the speed.

All ratings and selections below are based on a Good track.

Rosehill Race 8 – Group 3 Five Diamonds (1800m)

The Five Diamonds is run under set weights and penalties conditions over 1800m, and there's a strong mix of form lines converging on this year's contest.

The Five Diamonds Prelude provides an obvious starting point, with Declichy Boulevard coming from behind to defeat Linebacker, while Plymouth also performed well.

However, the form through the Group 1 Toorak Handicap and Epsom Handicap adds another layer to the race.

For me, Welcometotheshow is the runner who represents the most appealing betting opportunity at the current price.

1st Selection – #11 Welcometotheshow ($10)

Welcometotheshow is the horse I'm keen to be with in the Five Diamonds, particularly at the double-figure price currently available.

His performance in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap was very good, finishing close to a hot speed in a race won by the talented Lady Shenandoah.

That was a strong effort in quality company, and the form deserves plenty of respect.

He then contested the Five Diamonds Prelude, where things didn't go his way at a vital stage.

He was denied clear running when it mattered, but once he found room, he attacked the line strongly.

It was a much better performance than the finishing result alone might suggest.

He now gets his regular rider back aboard, which is another positive heading into Saturday.

The step up to 1800m doesn't look an issue based on the way he's been finishing his races, and he should be suited by the additional distance.

With the Group 1 Toorak form behind him and an unlucky Prelude run to forgive, there's plenty to like about his chances.

At around $10, I think he's an attractive betting proposition.

Gately's Verdict: Very good in the Toorak and unlucky at a crucial stage in the Prelude before finishing strongly. The 1800m looks suitable, his regular rider returns and $10 looks a juicy price.

2nd Selection – #1 Linebacker

Linebacker is one of the main dangers and brings strong form into the race.

He hit the lead early in the straight in the Five Diamonds Prelude, carrying his weight before being run down by Declichy Boulevard.

Although he couldn't hold off the winner, it was still a solid performance.

His earlier form through the Alan Brown Stakes is another positive and suggests he has the quality to be competitive at this level.

He'll need to turn the tables on Declichy Boulevard, but there's enough in his recent performances to suggest he's capable of doing so.

Gately's Verdict: Hit the lead early under his weight in the Prelude before being run down. His Alan Brown form is strong, and he looks a genuine danger.

3rd Selection – #8 Declichy Boulevard

Declichy Boulevard is going to be very hard to beat again after her impressive victory in the Five Diamonds Prelude.

She had no luck in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap before producing a much better result last start.

In the Prelude, she travelled beautifully into the race before letting down strongly and running over Linebacker.

It was an impressive performance and one that confirmed she's racing in excellent form.

There are a couple of changes to consider on Saturday.

She rises 2kg in weight and steps up to 1800m, so she'll need to handle both adjustments.

However, given the way she travelled and finished in the Prelude, it's difficult to knock her chances.

Gately's Verdict: Unlucky in the Epsom before producing an excellent Prelude win. The additional 2kg and rise to 1800m are considerations, but she's very hard to beat again.

4th Selection – #7 Verona Rose

Verona Rose is another runner who deserves consideration after her latest performance.

She gave Lazzura a genuine scare last start, and that form ties in strongly through Declichy Boulevard.

It's a useful reference when comparing the leading chances in this race.

The major question is whether she can run a strong 1800m.

That's something we won't know for certain until Saturday.

If she handles the distance, she has the form to be competitive with the main chances.

Gately's Verdict: Gave Lazzura a scare last start, with that form linking nicely through Declichy Boulevard. The big question is whether she runs out a strong 1800m.

5th Selection – #10 Zambardo

Zambardo is a runner with enough class to make his presence felt.

He was sound in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes and has been freshened up again ahead of this assignment.

There's no doubting his ability, but he's reached the stage where he needs to convert that talent into another win.

The market will be interesting to monitor, particularly given the freshen-up and his underlying class.

Gately's Verdict: Sound in the Feehan and freshened up again. Has the class to feature but needs to find a win. Market support will be worth watching.

6th Selection – #9 Plymouth

Plymouth continues to race extremely well and deserves to be included among the chances.

He's been holding his form consistently and comes into the Five Diamonds following another solid performance in the Prelude.

Importantly, he drops 3kg from that run, which gives him a favourable weight adjustment heading into Saturday.

With his consistent recent performances and the weight drop, he has a legitimate case to be competitive again.

Gately's Verdict: Continues to race well and drops 3kg from the Prelude. That weight relief gives him a case in a competitive race.

David Gately's Final Five Diamonds Verdict

The Five Diamonds looks a competitive race, with several runners bringing strong form through the Prelude and other major spring features.

Declichy Boulevard was excellent winning the Prelude and will be difficult to beat again, while Linebacker has the form to turn in another strong performance.

Verona Rose also has claims if she handles the 1800m, and both Zambardo and Plymouth are capable of featuring.

However, I'm happy to be with Welcometotheshow at the price.

His performance in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap was very good, and his Prelude run was better than it appeared after he was denied clear running at a vital stage.

With his regular rider returning and the step up to 1800m looking suitable, I think he has the right profile to produce a strong performance.

Top Selection: Rosehill Race 8 – #11 Welcometotheshow ($10)

Leading Dangers: #1 Linebacker and #8 Declichy Boulevard.
