David Gately heads to Flemington on Saturday with three strong plays, led by a Group 1-winning mare returning to the distance where she produced one of the biggest performances of her career.

Flemington is expected to race on a Good track with the rail back in the True position and little wind forecast.

The rail was out 10m at the most recent meeting, when the circle races played fairly and runners generally headed towards the middle in the straight-course events.

Gately’s value bet has excellent fresh form around some quality horses, while his each-way selection gets to an unbeaten distance and adds blinkers.

Bet of the Day – Race 8 #12 Sheza Alibi

Sheza Alibi was a little slow away first-up before finding herself following the star mare Autumn Glow over 1400m.

She couldn't match Autumn Glow's acceleration when the sprint went on, but the way Sheza Alibi strengthened again over the final 100m was the part of the performance to take from the run.

Now she gets the rise to 1600m, which looks a major positive.

It's the same distance over which she produced her phenomenal Group 1 Doncaster victory, and she should be much better suited getting back to the mile with that first-up run behind her.

Sheza Alibi is the one to beat.

Best Value Bet – Race 9 #8 On Display – $11

On Display returns with excellent fresh form.

She was good against the race shape when third first-up over this track and distance last preparation, taking on some smart male opposition.

Go back another preparation and she defeated Shadhavar fresh despite giving that mare 4kg, which is another strong reference for this assignment.

She's trialling well ahead of her return and looks ready to produce another big performance fresh.

At around $11, On Display looks excellent value.
