Flemington hosts another strong Saturday meeting with conditions expected to remain ideal for racing.

Ratings are assessed for a Good track, with the rail out 6 metres after sitting at 2 metres last meeting when the track played extremely fairly across the board.

Even the straight races produced even results across the width of the course.

A South–South Westerly wind is forecast to build during the afternoon which should provide runners with a slight tailwind in the home straight, particularly relevant for the straight-course races.

David Gately – Flemington Best Bets 7/3/26

Flemington – Race 6 No.1 ZAMBALES $1.90

Zambales looks ideally placed stepping up to 1400 metres, which appears the perfect distance for this stage of the preparation.

She produced an excellent performance when finishing a clear second in the Talindert Stakes, with the winner running exceptional time.

Last start she didn’t enjoy the best of luck in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, where blinkers were added, and arguably should have finished closer.

From a favourable draw and now getting to a more suitable trip, she profiles as the horse to beat.

Flemington – Race 9 No.13 MY GLADIOLA $6.00

My Gladiola was simply no match for the brilliant Tentyris first-up in the Lightning Stakes, but that form reads extremely well given the winner’s quality.

She also chased Tentyris home in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes during the spring in a race run in very fast time.

While she may not quite match that elite sprinter at level weights, returning to handicap conditions sees her receive a significant 5kg weight swing and she is currently available at roughly three times the price.

Back in a handicap and at attractive odds, she shapes as a genuine each-way play.
