David Gately Horse Racing Tips for Manikato Stakes 27/9/26

The Group 1 Manikato Stakes brings together a deep field of sprinters over 1200m at Caulfield, and there are genuine winning chances right across the market.

Recent Group 1 form through the Moir and Memsie Stakes features prominently, while several runners arrive with strong form around some of the best sprinters in the country.

The potential for rain also adds another dimension, particularly with Oliveanotherday returning to Caulfield after a slightly below-best performance up the Flemington straight.

At around $6, he looks one of the more interesting runners in an open edition of the Manikato.

1. Oliveanotherday

Oliveanotherday was simply outsprinted by Bridal Waltz when resuming before heading to Flemington, where he was below his best up the straight on a Good 3.

Even then, he wasn't beaten far.

The return to Caulfield looks a positive and any rain around should only add to his chances.

Most importantly, the market has opened right up.

At around $6, Oliveanotherday suddenly looks a very appealing betting proposition.

2. Extragalactic

Extragalactic was very good first-up in the Group 1 Moir Stakes, making ground closer to the inside in a race where the overall pattern never really changed.

There is plenty of substance to her form.

Point Barrow was well behind her in the Moir and has since franked that performance, while Extragalactic had previously defeated Bridal Waltz.

Her Group 1 Goodwood performance was also excellent.

A wider draw would have been preferable, but she's going well enough to win the Manikato.

 

3. Beiwacht

Beiwacht produced a huge performance first-up, taking up the running and bolting in with the Group 1 Memsie Stakes.

The query is the significant drop from 1400m back to 1200m.

There is evidence he has the speed to cope. Second-up last preparation he finished only 0.6 lengths from Joliestar over 1300m.

Wet or dry conditions aren't a concern, but the track pattern and how the race unfolds could prove important.

 

4. Giga Kick

Giga Kick was simply outsprinted in the Group 1 Moir Stakes, but the race itself didn't change complexion and those trying to make ground were always facing a difficult task.

That form has subsequently received a boost through Point Barrow.

The Moir performance was better than it might initially appear and he remains firmly in contention.

 

5. Napoleonic

Napoleonic returned with a strong performance, finishing behind only Ninja in fast time after preparing for the campaign with some neat trials.

His previous preparation also gives him the form to measure up here.

He wasn't far from Beiwacht and finished only 1.6 lengths from Joliestar in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes in March.

If he's returned a better horse this preparation, as his first-up performance suggests is possible, he's right in this.

 

6. My Gladiola

My Gladiola deserves plenty of respect after winning the Group 1 Moir Stakes and showing enormous fight to get the job done.

The question now is whether she can reproduce that performance stepping up to 1200m.

She's already proven herself at the highest level this preparation. She simply has to show she can be just as effective over the extra distance.
