David Gately heads to Mornington on Saturday with two strong fresh runners, headed by Concord Connie, a mare who showed serious potential last preparation and has returned with some impressive trial work.

Mornington is expected to race on a Good track with the rail in the True position.

The rail was out 8m at the most recent meeting and the track played well, with no issue making ground.

Protected ground is closer to the inside this time, so those lanes should hold up strongly.

Concord Connie resumes and has been trialling superbly ahead of her return.

She made an immediate impression last preparation with a dominant fresh maiden victory over 1200m before heading to Flemington and blowing her opposition away.

That performance suggested she has the ability to develop into a Group 1-class mare, and there should still be plenty of upside to come.

The trials indicate she's ready to fire first-up again.

I'm a big fan of Concord Connie and she's the one to beat.

Best Value – Race 3 #4 Verdoux – $8

Verdoux also resumes with some very strong form from last preparation.

He ran down Explusion first-up in slick time before defeating She's An Artist and then splitting Meridius and Pondalowie.

Those form lines read particularly well for this assignment.

He's had three trials preparing for his return, winning the first impressively before his latest effort was just satisfactory.
