The $10 million Golden Eagle headlines a huge card at Randwick, and this year’s edition shapes as one of the most open and intriguing yet.

A mix of local stars, late-blooming talents, and international raiders line up over 1500m, promising a fascinating clash of form lines and racing styles.

The track is expected to play perfectly with fine weather forecast and a Good surface, while the 4-year-old set weights conditions mean pure talent and tactical nous will decide it.

With a genuine tempo likely, expect the race to open up for those who can blend speed with stamina. A hallmark of the modern Golden Eagle winner.

Here’s how Gator is playing it this year, with his feature Golden Eagle selections below.

David Gately Horse Racing Tips for the Golden Eagle 1/11/25

Race 8 – The Golden Eagle (1500m)

3 – LINEBACKER – Brilliant trial and then dominant in the Silver Eagle despite sitting wide. Even better suited at 1500m and still untapped.

14 – AUTUMN GLOW – Unbeaten and continually running elite times. Thrashed Pericles last start and looks every bit a future superstar.

12 – PANJA TOWER – Japanese G1 winner who ran near world-record time at 1600m. Massive respect on Australian debut.

4 – SEPALS – Outstanding in the Rupert Clarke and forget the Toorak ever happened. Big chance at odds.

1 – EVAPORATE – Blew the start in the Toorak and still ran huge. Honest, consistent, and not out of place here.
