Mick Gannon heads to Canterbury expecting rain-affected conditions to play a major role, with both of his key selections profiling as horses that should relish the wet track and improve deeper into their preparations.

With the Waller stable traditionally strong at this stage of campaigns and several runners bringing proven wet-track credentials, Gannon believes these two are ideally placed to run bold races.

All this information and benefits are avaliable in his premium package which you can grab below.

Mick Gannon – Canterbury Best Bets 27/5/26

Best Bets

Race 5 – #3 Skycatcher

Skycatcher looks very well placed second-up stepping out to 1550m.

He profiles as a smart progressive type and has already shown on both sides of the Tasman that rain-affected ground brings out his best.

His first-up run at Wyong was full of merit after attracting strong market support, where he was desperately unlucky not to win after struggling for clear running at a key stage.

The rise in trip looks ideal, he drops 2kg and the jockey switch only adds further confidence.

From the draw he maps to get every chance and if conditions stay wet, Gannon believes he’s clearly the horse to beat.

Race 4 – #11 Wootton Way

Wootton Way profiles as a horse ready to peak third-up.

He comes into this race on the seven-day backup after producing a clear career-best rating last start and his overall profile suggests there is still more improvement to come.

The wide barrier does make things slightly tricky early, however the Waller stable are renowned for improving horses significantly third-up and this setup looks ideal on rain-affected ground.

If he can slot in with cover during the middle stages, Gannon expects him to be finishing strongly late and proving very hard to hold out in the straight.
