Race 8 No.12 – DARKBONEE $2.45

The Symon Wilde–trained four-year-old is stepping up in grade against more seasoned opposition, but he brings the right mix of weight relief, fitness and upside to make the jump.

He was strong winning at Geelong last start over 1700m, carrying 61kg and really stretching out through the line, which strongly suggested he’s crying out for the rise to 2000m.

The key here is the eight-kilo drop in weight, which gives him a completely different profile in this field.

He’s capable of racing handily, and with Mick Dee aboard, he should be able to find a comfortable on-speed or stalking position rather than giving away a start.

If he runs out the trip as expected, this looks a great opportunity for him to announce himself at the next level and showcase his staying potential.
