Mick Gannon has found two strong plays on the Randwick card this Saturday, honing in on runners that are well placed by the map and conditions.

Both selections step into races that look suitable on paper, with weight relief, track pattern, and race shape all pointing in their favour.

Randwick – Race 2, No.5 Oakfield Saturn

This progressive mare has quickly built momentum, notching two wins early in her second preparation and showing a real knack for putting herself into the contest on speed.

She was authoritative winning a BM64 at Wyong last time out and while this is a step up into a restricted BM72, she gets in nicely at the weights, dropping 2.5kg and again pairing with Jason Collett.

With the rail out 4 metres on a Good track, the setup looks favourable for runners rolling forward, and Oakfield Saturn profiles to take full advantage of that pattern.

She maps to sit in the first six and should give a strong sight.

Randwick – Race 7, No.8 Sunrise

Drops back to BM94 company after taking on Group 3 grade and with Anna Roper’s claim applied, carries the same weight despite the significant class relief.

Her last-start third on a rain-affected track was full of merit, particularly on a day that didn’t suit horses racing on the speed.

Back on a dry surface and with limited pace engaged, conditions look far more favourable here.

Unbeaten from two starts at Randwick, Sunrise looks ideally placed to lift returning to her preferred venue with the map working in her favour.
