Michael Manley – Sandown Best Bet 23/5/26

Sandown Race 8 – #13 King Zephyr

King Zephyr looks ready to bounce back returning to one of his favourite tracks.

His record at Sandown Hillside is outstanding with three starts for three wins and the long uphill straight clearly suits the way he builds through his races late.

Last start at Flemington he never really had the race shape to suit after beginning slowly in a race that lacked genuine early tempo, making it difficult for horses settling back to make ground.

This looks a very different setup.

There appears to be much stronger speed engaged and with only 54.5kg, he should get every opportunity to settle off the pace and finish over the top of them late.

The wide draw also may prove advantageous by the latter stages of the meeting, particularly if runners are edging away from the inside lanes.

Everything points towards a much more favourable scenario and Manley believes King Zephyr is ready to return to the winner’s circle.
