Best Bet – Race 4 #3 Cruiserweight

Cruiserweight is a promising galloper who hasn't raced since finishing fourth at Caulfield, where he was slightly disappointing on face value.

There were excuses, with the decision to ride him forward not suiting. Both his jockey and trainer acknowledged after the race that those tactics worked against him.

The inside draw gives him the opportunity to enjoy a much softer run this time and produce the finish that had made him such an exciting prospect.

His connections have aspirations of progressing to much better races than Benchmark 74 grade, and Cruiserweight gets the chance to get back on track here.

Next Best – Race 9 #6 Persian Spirit

Persian Spirit remains an underrated galloper and returned with close to a career-best performance when runner-up to Shadhavar in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield.

The rise to 1300m suits even better, while any rain is a major positive given his strong record on wet ground.

His only previous start on the Sandown Hillside circuit produced a second placing, and he is also well treated at the weights.

With several factors falling his way, Persian Spirit looks a terrific each-way play.
