Race 8 – No.4 Whinchat $3.90

Whinchat was solid last start in a genuinely fast-run race, sticking on well to be beaten just 1.6 lengths in sixth.

He’s at his best when allowed to control proceedings up front, and that looks likely here.

With only two natural speed influences in the race, himself and Accredited, Whinchat should be able to roll to the lead without doing any early work.

Over the 1350m, a soft lead puts him right in his comfort zone, and if he runs up to his best, it will be more than good enough to win this.

Race 10 – No.9 Cross Tasman $2.10

Cross Tasman is in career-best form, coming off back-to-back wins and producing a clear career peak rating last start at Randwick.

The wide draw is the obvious query, but from this start point it’s not a deal-breaker, and he should be able to find a workable position in the run.

The only real concern is whether the race will become a leader-dominated affair.
