One of the most intriguing editions of the All-Star Mile in recent years headlines Flemington, with a genuine clash of racing styles set to shape the outcome.

Several high-class on-speed runners return early in their preparations, while many of the key closers arrive second-up and ready to peak at the 1600 metres.

The tactical battle could unfold a long way from home.

A key storyline surrounds Pride Of Jenni, who resumes after two jump-outs up to 1200 metres and returns at her preferred trip.

The free-running mare is expected to take control early, but the question remains whether the tempo from the half-mile onwards will allow the powerful finishers including Tom Kitten, Buckaroo and Steffi Magnetica to charge over the top late.

With such depth across the field at weight-for-age level, the race shapes as a fascinating tactical contest where boxing the trifecta or first four may prove easier than identifying the outright winner.

Neil Evans – All-Star Mile Preview 2026

Track Conditions

Flemington is expected to race on a Good 4, with the rail out 6 metres.

That setup can favour runners tracking the speed, particularly on the big Flemington circuit.

However, if the tempo lifts before the 600 metres, the race could quickly open up and allow the closers to launch down the middle of the track.

Speed Map

Pride Of Jenni should roll straight to the front from a low draw, controlling the tempo early.

Treasurethe Moment is likely to slide across and track her closely, while Evaporate positions just behind the speed.

Watch Me Rock and Sabaj should land in the next group.

From wider gates, Steparty looks to settle around midfield, with Steffi Magnetica nearby.

Further back, Tom Kitten is expected to settle in the second half of the field alongside Leica Lucy, while Buckaroo will likely be nearer the rear and Antino settles last.

The Favourite

Early market leader Pride Of Jenni ($4.20) could well be challenged in betting by Treasurethe Moment ($5.00) by race time.

Treasurethe Moment comes off a tough first-up run in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes and boasts an excellent second-up record, making her a major factor stepping to the mile.

Now an eight-year-old, Pride Of Jenni may just need this run before peaking second-up.

She draws well and can control the race from the front, but in a field of this depth she may be under the odds.

Neil’s Best Bet

Tom Kitten ($6.00)

Tom Kitten looks ideally suited over these middle distances when kept fresh.

He returns here after a month between runs following a powerful first-up win in a Group 3 at Caulfield, where he stormed home late.

A trial win since keeps him ticking over nicely and he should secure a run just off the fence, saving his effort for a powerful surge over the final 400 metres.

If the race is run at a genuine tempo, he looks perfectly placed to capitalise.

The Dangers

Treasurethe Moment – High-class mare who comes off a strong first-up effort in the Futurity and now reaches her preferred trip.

Steffi Magnetica ($7.00) – Will improve from her first-up run behind superstar Autumn Glow and draws for a much softer run.

Buckaroo ($8.50) – His closing run from the back in the Futurity was outstanding and he has an excellent second-up profile.

Pride Of Jenni – Free-running mare who can give a bold sight first-up if allowed to dictate.

Neil Evans’ Top Four

  1. Tom Kitten

  2. Treasurethe Moment

  3. Steffi Magnetica

  4. Buckaroo
