It’s one of the biggest days on the country racing calendar — Moonee Beach Hotel Coffs Harbour Cup Day — and this year’s edition shapes as one of the most competitive and high-quality fields in recent memory.

With Big Dance eligibility on the line, a strong mix of metropolitan and local stables will converge on the picturesque north coast track, all chasing the coveted Coffs silverware.

Veteran racing analyst Neil Evans has his eye firmly on a rising Sydney mare who brings genuine city form to the bush, and she tops his list of chances in Friday’s $150,000 feature.

The Favourite - It's A Knockout

Progressive Sydney mare It’s A Knockout is primed to land the feature Moonee Beach Hotel Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m) this Friday.

Stepping up to the mile third-up and beautifully drawn to find cover, there’s a real sense of timing for this talented four-year-old daughter of Dundeel.

Trained out of the Ciaron Maher stable at Warwick Farm, she made a big statement two runs back with a dominant four-length win in a strong BM78 at Randwick.

She then backed that up with a luckless third in BM88 grade, closing hard late behind Getafix, a subsequent winner again.

The strength of her form is undeniable.

Oh Diamond Lil, who ran second to her two back, came out and won impressively, while Getafix has since made it back-to-back victories.

It’s the kind of form that stacks up beautifully for a feature country mile.

With some rain around, a Soft 6 or 7 track is likely and this no concern for It’s A Knockout, who has two wins from her three starts in soft going.

From a midfield draw with Ashley Morgan aboard, she’ll be poised to strike late and take full advantage of Coffs Harbour’s long home straight.

Key Rivals in the Coffs Cup

Cranky Harry $6.00 (Matthew Dunn):

Draws wide but improving with each run.

Solid last-start effort behind a smart one in Tuff Tu Mus, and the mile looks ideal at this stage of his prep.

Expect a bold showing from the tough gelding.

Sibaaq $8.00 (Annabel & Rob Archibald):

Carries a big weight (61kg) but boasts consistent Listed form and brings serious class to the race.

He’s placed in his last three and is ultra-reliable.

The Three Hundred $4.20 (Waterhouse & Bott):

Last start Group 3 Winx Guineas winner, sticking to the mile and gets in light with just 1kg over the minimum.

He’s got upside and should be respected on class alone.
