Mick Gannon – Randwick Best Bets 23/5/26

Race 4 – #5 Thebudgiesmugler

Thebudgiesmugler looks ready to break through this preparation.

His runs this campaign have steadily improved and now third-up he gets to his favourite trip of 2400m, which looks the ideal setup for him to produce a peak performance.

Importantly, he is unbeaten in two attempts at the distance and maps to get every possible chance from a tactical point of view.

He should roll forward comfortably and settle in the first few throughout.

With fitness on his side and conditions likely to suit, he profiles as a horse that could prove very difficult to run down late.

Race 7 – #11 King Of The Sea

King Of The Sea has been one of the best-backed runners across the country and it’s easy to see why.

His effort at Gosford last start was outstanding, finishing just 0.4 lengths from the winner after another strong closing performance.

While this is technically a tougher race, he drops 4kg and looks far better suited returning to the spacious Randwick layout where he should have more time to build through his gears.

He continues to profile as a progressive staying type with upside and Gannon believes he is ready to put this field away if he gets even luck in running.
