Horse Racing Tips for the Golden Slipper 2026

This is his House

One of the most open Golden Slippers in recent memory shapes as a race that could be decided in the first 300 metres.
This looks like an ultra-tactical and positional contest, with the majority of the early speed drawn wide, which adds a layer of complexity to how the race will unfold.
That scenario may well set things up for a runner who can settle a few lengths off the leaders, find cover, and launch late over the final 350 metres.
With so many strong form lines converging, combined with high pressure and tricky draws, this is a very difficult race to dissect.
The market reflects that, with little separating the leading chances, yet it may be a double-figure runner that represents the best value.

Rosehill | Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m)
Track Conditions
Steady and intermittent rain in the 48 hours leading into the race suggests we are likely to be racing on a Soft 5 or Soft 6 surface, although with a full program of high-quality racing beforehand, there is a chance conditions could deteriorate further.
Speed Map & Race Shape
The early stages will be crucial.
Closer To Free and Pembrey are expected to push forward from wide gates and take up prominent positions, along with Paradoxium, who has the early speed to overcome a difficult draw.
Warwoven will also need to work early from out wide and should settle just off the leaders, while Streisand from a middle barrier rolls into the first group alongside long-shot Music Time.
Stretan Ruler is another drawn wide and should sit just behind the speed, with Fireball and Spicy Miss likely to settle a few lengths off the leaders.
Guest House should land just behind that group, ideally positioned.
Early favourite Chayan, drawn wider than ideal, may be forced to settle around midfield, while Campione D’Italia has drawn well and should secure a comfortable run in transit.
The remainder of the field is expected to settle in the second half in what will be a packed and high-pressure contest.
The Favourite
There is a case to be made for several runners at the top of the market, but Chayan ($6.50) has emerged as the favourite.
She is an exciting filly with breeding that suggests she will handle soft conditions, but her wide draw presents a significant challenge, particularly in such a competitive and tactical race.
Neil’s Best Bet
GUEST HOUSE ($11.00)
The race shape looks ideal for Guest House, particularly with so much speed expected from the outside barriers.
He comes into this third-up with a month between runs, and has been very unlucky in both starts this preparation.
Most notably, he was a moral beaten in the Group 1 Blue Diamond, where he was slow to begin before encountering significant interference over the final 300 metres.
From a more favourable draw here, he should be able to settle a few lengths off the speed with cover, before being presented at the right time in the straight.
He is yet to race on soft ground, but his breeding suggests he will handle it, and there is a strong sense that this race sets up perfectly for him.
The Dangers
Warwoven ($9.00)
Very strong win in the Group 3 Pago Pago where he sat outside the leader. If he can cross without doing too much work, he will give a big sight.
Closer To Free ($8.50)
Similar profile. Has the speed to get across and is capable of sustaining a strong tempo from the front.
Paradoxium ($10.50)
Has the early speed to overcome a wide draw.
Yet to see soft ground but bred to handle it and can be in the finish.
Campione D’Italia ($21.00)
Outstanding closing win in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes and has trialled quietly since.
Drawn to get a perfect run midfield and looks over the odds.
