Horse Racing Tips for The Oakleigh Plate 2026

Tasmania's Shining Hope

Autumn racing has exploded into life and last week’s Lightning Stakes delivered in style, with Tentyris producing a display of raw speed to claim the first Group 1 of the year.
This Saturday Caulfield turns it up another level, hosting three Group 1 races including the time-honoured Oakleigh Plate over 1100 metres.
The Oakleigh Plate is one of the toughest handicaps to dissect.
Varying weights, contrasting preparations, different form lines and it is rarely straightforward.
But history tells us one thing: this race regularly produces big-priced winners.
If you land on the right one, you are in for a serious collect.
Last year’s winner Jimmysstar launched into stardom off this race.
Could we see another breakout performance in 2026?

Track Conditions
-
Current Rating: Good 4
-
Expected Rating: Good 3
-
Rail: True
The rail is back in the True position. At the most recent meeting with the rail True, runners drawn close to the inside and settling midfield were advantaged. Expect similar patterns if conditions remain firm.
Speed Map & Race Shape
There is genuine speed engaged.
Gallant Son (3), She’s Bulletproof (4), Hedged (5), Don’t Hope Do (7), Tropicus (9), Bridal Waltz (12) and Way To The Stars (14) all push forward looking for prominent positions.
That ensures a strong tempo.
Three-year-old favourite Point Barrow (14) will likely settle towards the rear and look to build into the race off a hot speed, along with Persian Spirit (8), Oak Hill (11) and Jedibeel (13).
Gee Gees Mistruth (1) also settles back and will need clear running to unleash her finishing burst.
If the tempo holds up, expect the race to be decided late.

Selections & Analysis
1st – #10 Gee Gees Mistruth $9.50
The former Tasmanian mare is in peak form.
She was desperately unlucky first-up in the Listed W.J. Adams, finishing alongside Oak Hill on a day that suited on-pace runners.
Oak Hill subsequently won the Group 2 Rubiton, which strengthens the form.
With a weight swing in her favour and a stronger tempo likely here, she profiles perfectly.
Her trial between runs was sharp, and she should be storming home late.
2nd – #14 Point Barrow $2.80
The three-year-old filly has done nothing wrong in six career starts, yet to miss a placing.
She gets in with just 50kg and maps to be charging home off a genuine tempo.
The question is historical: since 2011, only one three-year-old has won this race.
She has the class, but history is against her.
3rd – #2 Jedibeel $23.00
Massively over the odds.
He has competed at Group 1 level in Sydney and boasts an outstanding first-up record.
Two sharp trial wins in NSW indicate he is ready to fire.
Damian Lane takes the ride and he will benefit enormously from the strong speed.
Expect him to be finishing hard.
4th – #7 Bridal Waltz $21.00
Another runner well over the odds.
She will be involved in the early speed battle but has shown she can stick on strongly.
Two sharp trials suggest she is ready.
The trainer-jockey combination is striking at 26%, and Jamie Melham is unbeaten aboard her.
She will give a sight.
