You think it cannot get any better after Day 1 of The Championships, but fast forward to this Saturday for Day 2.

Another four Group 1 contests await, including the Queen Of The Turf Stakes for the fillies and mares.

While a few of the elite mares have opted for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes later on the program, this race has still attracted serious quality, with five Group 1 winners engaged and chasing the crown.

It shapes as a terrific contest for racing fans and punters alike, so let’s take a deep dive into it.

Cody Lane – Queen Of The Turf Stakes Preview 2026

Track Conditions

• Current Rating: Soft 6
• Expected Rating: Good 4
• Running Rail: 4m
• Track Bias: None

Speed Map & Race Shape

Leaders: Pride Of Jenni (1) and Perfumist (8)

On-Pace: Treasurethe Moment (3) and She’s A Hustler (6)

Midfield: Lady Shenandoah (2), Idle Flyer (4), Arctic Glamour (7) and Lazzura (11)

Rear: Melody Again (9), Leica Lucy (10), Modella (12), Pinito (13) and Dark Glitter (14)

Race Shape: Pride Of Jenni will roll forward and take control as she always does, but the key question is how much pressure Perfumist applies if she lines up, given she is also nominated elsewhere.

Bjorn Baker’s decision will play a major role in how this race unfolds and could significantly impact the winning chances of several runners.

Queen Of The Turf Stakes Facts You Must Consider

• Since 2000, four year old mares have the best record with 11 winners
• Trainer Chris Waller is chasing four consecutive wins after Fangirl, Zougotcha and Atishu
• Since 2002, barrier 8 has been the most successful with 7 winners
• This race has produced plenty of upsets, with only 3 favourites winning in the last 13 editions and 7 winners at double figure odds. The average winning price in that time is $15.22

Selections & Analysis

1st – #2 Lady Shenandoah $3.90

Her form this preparation gives her every chance of winning this.

She has produced two strong runs behind T J Smith winner Joliestar earlier in the prep and was far from disgraced finishing fourth behind the benchmark Autumn Glow in the George Ryder.

Looking deeper into that George Ryder, she finished alongside Gringotts and Pericles, both of whom ran huge races in the Doncaster under big weights.

She also comfortably accounted for Evaporate, who along with Pericles, had previously beaten Treasurethe Moment in the Futurity.

She gets the James McDonald and Chris Waller combination, maps perfectly, fits the profile as a four year old and has already won the Flight Stakes at this track and distance.

She is the one to beat, even though she has yet to take on Pride Of Jenni.

2nd – #1 Pride Of Jenni $4.00

Expect a significant market move depending on scratchings.

If Perfumist comes out, the race shape changes dramatically and plays right into her hands.

She looked beaten first-up in the All Star Mile before fighting back strongly to finish third, then backed that up with a tough run in the Australian Cup where she was only narrowly defeated.

She will be out in front doing her thing and, as always, it will be a case of catch her if you can.

3rd – #5 She’s A Hustler $26.00

She is the value runner in the race and looks capable of running a bold race.

Trainer Grahame Begg brings a strong team to Sydney and this lightly raced mare has plenty of upside.

A key form reference is her win over Light Infantry Man in the Sandown Stakes over 2400m, which ties in strongly with this field.

She has had three jump outs leading into this, all over 1000m, and boasts a strong first-up record with three wins from four attempts.

She should be fit and ready to perform.

4th – #3 Treasurethe Moment $4.00

Comes off a confidence boosting win in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes and brings strong form into this.

The concern is the race shape. If Perfumist does not run, she may be the one forced to apply pressure to Pride Of Jenni, which could leave her vulnerable late.

Her best is clearly good enough, but the map makes things more challenging here.
