Horse Racing Tips for the Queensland Oaks 2026

Neil's found one at odds

This year’s Queensland Oaks shapes as a fascinating tactical race and despite the large field size, I think the setup clearly favours runners settling off the speed.
A lot of the early pressure is drawn wide which creates an interesting dynamic early.
There are multiple fillies wanting to push forward from awkward barriers and that often creates additional work through the first 600m.
If they overdo it early, which I think they might, this becomes a race for the patient.
The filly conserving energy and producing one sustained run from midfield may hold the key.
Queensland Oaks Preview – Neil Evans 2026
Track Conditions
• Expected Surface: Good 4
• Rail Position: +2m
• Weather: Dry conditions expected
With the rail moving slightly out and dry weather forecast, conditions should improve through the meeting.
Much like last week, I expect runners to gradually work away from the inside lanes later in the day, particularly in longer races where momentum becomes important.
Speed Map & Race Shape
Leaders:
Norty Forty looks the likely leader with Single Red rolling across from a wide barrier. Fringes and Paltrow Miss also push forward early despite difficult draws.
On Pace:
Fireball Miss and Panda’s Spectrum may be forced to work early from wide alleys, while Crathie Kirk should secure a more economical position.
Midfield:
Panova, Chispa, Solid Gold and Parvenu all look likely to land in the large midfield pack where cover becomes critical.
Backmarkers:
Soverato, Silvasista, Zouleika and Sheeza Diva are expected to settle back and rely on tempo.
Race Shape:
This looks like a race where barrier positions force the speed battle.
Several fillies drawn wide are unlikely to hand up easily which should create pressure through the first half of the race before things inevitably compress in the middle stages.
That setup strongly favours horses finding cover around midfield and producing late.
The Favourite – Panova
Panova deserves favouritism after her Australasian Oaks victory.
Her staying credentials are proven, she profiles beautifully at the trip and the stable has purposely spaced her runs.
My only concern is price.
Coming off a six-week break in a deeper race than her last assignment means shorter odds don’t excite me.
She clearly can win — but I’m looking elsewhere from a betting perspective.
Neil’s Best Bet – Soverato
I keep coming back to Soverato.
There’s a real sense that everything this preparation has been building towards this race and this distance.
Her Sydney form stacks up strongly for an Oaks like this and her latest effort in The Roses suggested she is screaming out for further.
She made up significant ground there despite conditions and race shape not being ideal.
Now onto a bigger track, firmer ground and out to 2200m — this setup looks ideal.
At double-figure odds, I think she’s the value play in the race.
The Dangers
Chispa ($6)
Very unlucky in The Roses and arguably should have won. Dry ground suits and if she gets clear air, she’s a major threat.
Panova ($3.90)
Quality filly with proven staying credentials. Deserves respect despite looking short enough in betting.
Fireball Miss ($7.50)
Comes through the right race and profiles as a filly still improving deep into the preparation.
Solid Gold ($11.50)
Her Derby run last week had more merit than it appears and the backup may prove ideal.
Neil’s Top Five
1. SOVERATO
2. Chispa
3. Panova
4. Fireball Miss
5. Solid Gold
This looks a race where patience wins.
The fillies doing less work early should be the ones strongest through the final 300 metres.
