Mick Gannon has identified two runners ready to produce winning performances, with Quarterback and Sonic Bender both looking well placed after impressive recent efforts against unfavourable track patterns.

Quarterback caught the eye with a strong first-up performance and should appreciate the rise to 1400m, while Sonic Bender looks the value play of the day after making up significant ground under difficult circumstances last start.

Mick has also identified two horses to follow from Saturday's racing, with Central Europe shaping as a potential Group 1 contender in the autumn and Vivvy Air looking ready to return to winning form.

His full package is now live for punters below.

Mick Gannon’s Warwick Farm Best Bets 28/10/26

Best Bet – Race 1 #12 Quarterback $3.70

Quarterback was excellent first-up, producing a strong finishing effort despite racing against a track pattern that favoured runners closer to the inside rail.

He finished behind the talented Barracks and Affari, who has since franked the form with another victory.

What impressed me most was the way Quarterback worked to and through the line. It was the performance of a horse who looks ready to win a race very soon.

The step up from 1200m to 1400m looks ideal, allowing him to settle into a comfortable rhythm before building momentum late.

He also draws perfectly in barrier four and gains the services of champion jockey James McDonald.

With a favourable map, additional distance and a strong form reference behind him, Quarterback looks extremely well placed.

I expect Quarterback to improve sharply second-up and prove too good for his rivals.

Best Value Bet – Race 2 #6 Sonic Bender $8.00

Sonic Bender is clearly my best value play of the day after an outstanding performance under difficult circumstances last start.

He was slow away from a wide barrier and was forced to settle at the rear of the field on a day when racing on the speed and close to the inside rail was a significant advantage.

At the 800m, he was approximately 10 lengths behind the leader and eventual winner, Andron.

Despite being completely unsuited by the race pattern, Sonic Bender produced a powerful finishing effort to reduce that margin to just 0.9 lengths at the finish.

It was an excellent performance and one that suggests he's ready to go one better.

He tackles 2400m for the second time, which looks ideal given the way he finished off his latest run.

The booking of talented apprentice Sienna Grima is another major positive, with her 2kg claim providing valuable weight relief.

I expect Sonic Bender to settle worse than midfield before beginning a sustained run approaching the home turn.

If he can build momentum without interruption, he should be finishing over the top of his rivals.

Sonic Bender is my Best Value Bet of the Day and looks very hard to beat

Mick Gannon’s Blackbookers From Saturday

Two runners caught my attention during Saturday's racing, and both are worth following closely over their next few appearances.

Central Europe – A Group 1 Prospect for the Autumn

Central Europe showed punters exactly what he's capable of when circumstances fall his way, producing the sort of performance that could prove a turning point in his career.

It was an encouraging display of his ability, and I believe the confidence gained from that performance could be the making of him.

He has the talent to develop into a genuine Group 1 contender, and I'm particularly interested in following his progress when he returns during the autumn.

The Randwick Guineas looks a likely target and would provide an excellent opportunity to test himself against some of the best horses of his generation.

Blackbook Verdict: Central Europe is a horse to follow into the autumn, with the Randwick Guineas a potential Group 1 target.

Vivvy Air – Ready to Bounce Back

Vivvy Air produced a much better performance than her finishing result might suggest on Saturday.

She was doing her best work late, despite racing against the prevailing track pattern.

The way the race unfolded also worked against her, making it difficult to get into the contest when it mattered most.

Considering those circumstances, I thought her finishing effort had plenty of merit.

With a more suitable race shape and a fairer track pattern next time, she should be capable of producing a significantly stronger performance.

Blackbook Verdict: Vivvy Air is one to follow next start and should be very hard to beat with conditions in her favour.
