We head to Warwick Farm today with the rail out 3 metres and the track rated a Soft 5, conditions that should suit runners able to settle on speed and control their own destiny.

With no clear on-pace bias expected, I’m happy siding with horses who map well, get into rhythm early and can build pressure from the turn.

I’ve landed on two that tick those boxes and look very well placed in their respective races.

Race 1 – No.7 FEMININO

This daughter of Tivaci showed plenty of ability on debut when finishing third in a strong maiden and the step up from 1250m to 1400m looks a clear positive.

From the good draw she should settle on speed under Tommy Berry and take improvement naturally off that first run.

With even luck, she’ll be very hard to run down.

Kokatahi is the main danger but looks to have a tougher map to overcome.

Race 5 – No.1 BIG RED TEQUILA

An ultra-consistent mare who has gone to another level this preparation, winning two of her past three starts.

Her run two back over 1100m on a Good 4 rated as a career peak, and last start she was still very honest despite a slipped saddle in running.

Drawn to land on speed again, she gets every chance to control the race and if she reproduces her recent form, she should prove too strong.
