Mick Gannon turns his attention to Warwick Farm with conditions shaping up ideally for a solid day of racing.

The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail out 5 metres from the 1000m to the winning post and 3 metres for the remainder, a setup that often rewards runners who can hold a forward position and control their races.

With that in mind, Mick has honed in on two runners who map well, are building nicely through their preparations, and look well placed to strike.

Race 2 – No.6 MANUKAU $2.40

Manukau was very good first-up when finishing second to the smart The Little General at Hawkesbury, pulling clear of the rest of the field and stamping herself as a filly with upside.

She draws ideally in barrier two, keeps Tommy Berry in the saddle, and finds a very winnable maiden.

She should land on-speed without doing any work and with natural improvement second-up, looks extremely hard to beat.

Race 6 – No.3 COVERT THINKING $6.50

This lightly raced mare by So You Think has a strong profile, winning three of her seven starts to date.

She returned in fine order first-up, closing off impressively despite being caught wide and chasing a strong tempo throughout.

Drawn perfectly in barrier one and nearing peak fitness, she can settle much closer in the run this time.

Ana Roper can show early intent, land leaders back off an even tempo, and give her every chance to break through this preparation.
