This week, on a huge Day 2 of The Championships at Randwick, we focus on two popular favourites who appear well under the odds and represent excellent risks.

In the Country Championships Final, the favourite’s price appears anchored to a very short SP last start, however a poor speed map and stable concerns suggest he may drift as start time approaches.

Later on the card, a high profile Godolphin filly lines up in a Group 2 event, which may indicate the stable has taken the easier option.

She also faces a difficult speed map and, with a conservative rider engaged, looks a strong risk at the short quote.

Saturday Lays of the Day 11/4/26

Randwick Race 4 #5 Matcha Latte $2.80

The stable often struggles to peak on major carnival days, and although this runner qualified well at Hawkesbury, this is a far tougher assignment.

From barrier twelve over 1400 metres at Randwick, the setup is problematic.

He is likely to be caught wide or forced back in the field, both of which significantly reduce his winning chances.

Expect rival riders to offer no assistance, meaning Ash Morgan will need everything to go right to secure a suitable position in the run.

The Hawkesbury lead up appears to have been a weak race, and as a $1.50 favourite he was expected to win.

The market now appears anchored to that performance, which may prove misleading.

A drift beyond $3 would not surprise as more informed money enters the market.

Avoid.

Randwick Race 6 #9 Tempted $1.65

Happy to oppose the Godolphin filly at the current short quote, which reflects the heavy hype surrounding her rather than the true difficulty of the race.

She meets a quality field where several runners are likely to settle in more favourable forward positions.

This will leave her chasing from a long way back, which is rarely ideal in high pressure races.

Chad Schofield takes the ride, and while capable, there are still question marks around his performance in elite carnival conditions.

Timing will be critical, and any hesitation could prove costly.

There is also a broader query around race placement.

Opting for a Group 2 event may suggest the stable is avoiding stronger opposition, which raises questions about expectations.

At the current price, she looks highly vulnerable and represents an excellent risk.

Lay.
