Rosehill Risks

This week we focus on two warm favourites at Rosehill Gardens, both of whom appear to face significant challenges despite being popular selections in the market.

In the two-year-old colts race, a wide draw will place considerable pressure on rider Rachel King, who may be forced to push forward early to secure position.

In the following race, a flashy last-start winner has naturally attracted strong support from recreational punters. However, he now faces a sharp rise in distance from 1600 metres to 2000 metres, which looks a serious test.

Avoid both runners at their current short prices in betting.

Saturday Lays of the Day 14/3/26

Rosehill Race 4 #2 Warwoven $2.60

We warned punters about taking the short quote about this runner first up when he finished unplaced at Randwick last start, and our view remains the same here.

Rachel King again takes the ride and from a tricky wide draw in gate ten, she will need to produce an excellent ride to secure a favourable position.

If the horse begins keenly and she attempts to cross early, there is a risk that he works too hard through the first section of the race, which may leave him vulnerable late.

This race also features several high-profile colts that have been prepared specifically for this event to secure the required prizemoney for Golden Slipper qualification.

In contrast, Warwoven is still building fitness after earlier interruptions during his campaign.

At the current quote, he appears an excellent risk, and a market drift beyond three dollars would not be surprising as betting approaches start time.

Avoid.

Rosehill Race 5 #2 Birdman $2.90

I am keen to oppose Birdman following the flashy last start win that attracted significant attention.

Returning to stronger Sydney grade presents a much tougher challenge, and the Rosehill circuit may not suit his usual racing pattern, which often sees him settling well back in the field.

The rise from 1600 metres to 2000 metres also looks very sharp for a horse of this profile. With several genuine staying types engaged, the race should be run at a solid tempo, which will test his stamina.

Only third up in the preparation, fitness could also become a factor late in the race.

He may show a sharp turn of foot in the straight, but inside the final 200 metres his run may begin to weaken as the distance takes its toll.

Lay.
