Later in the day, another well supported favourite resumes over 1410 metres and is expected to face early pressure in a race with genuine speed, making the task much tougher than the market suggests.

Flemington Race 6 #10 Touchdown $2.10

Talented, however he looks one run short from a fitness perspective as he tackles the testing 1620 metres second up.

Barrier 10 presents an immediate challenge and I expect Blake Shinn will be forced to make a move at some stage, meaning the horse is likely to spend valuable petrol before the race is there to be won.

His second up record is also underwhelming, with just one placing from three attempts, and his get back racing pattern only adds to the level of risk.

At the current quote of $2.10 he looks pure poison, and I expect the professional betting teams to gap him late as the market matures.

He should receive every opportunity to produce his customary flashing finish, however I suspect the lack of race fitness will see him paddling over the final 200 metres.

Flemington Race 8 #10 Sass Appeal $2.30

The Danny O'Brien stable is flying, however this placement looks ambitious with the mare resuming straight into a Benchmark 100 over 1410 metres.

Her previous preparation was outstanding, winning four of five starts, but the market appears to have overreacted to that form and overlooked the challenge of taking on a field of race fit opposition first up.

Tactically she likes to race on speed, however there is genuine early pressure engaged and she may be forced to work harder than ideal to find her preferred position.

That extra effort early, combined with the lack of race fitness, could leave her vulnerable when the pressure is applied in the straight.

She looks a classic sitting duck over the final 200 metres and, at the current odds, represents poor betting value.
