Lay Betting Tips: Who to avoid on the punt 18/4/26

In the following race, a Chris Waller acquisition from Western Australia faces a sharp rise in class at his first start for the new stable.

Saturday Lays of the Day 18/4/26

Randwick Race 7 #1 Campione D’Italia $2.70

A hype horse who won the Sires’ Produce Stakes here last start, however he has now been up for an extended period and may be reaching the end of his preparation.

He produced a strong run from well back in the Golden Slipper before being perfectly placed to win the Sires over 1400 metres. While many suggest the rise to 1600 metres will suit, I believe it brings added risk at this stage of his campaign.

There is a strong chance he races flat, and the final 200 metres may expose any signs of fatigue.

His racing pattern is also a concern. He is likely to settle well back again, and with the rail out seven metres, the track pattern may favour those racing closer to the speed.

At the current quote, he looks overbet and represents poor value.

Avoid.

Randwick Race 8 #3 Jokers Grin $2.90

The Waller stable has spoken positively about this Western Australian recruit, however he is yet to be tested against the stronger depth of eastern seaboard racing.

While his form in Western Australia has been impressive, those fields are often weaker, and many horses struggle when stepping into Sydney and Melbourne company.

Barrier ten presents a difficult task. From this draw, James McDonald may be forced to settle back or risk covering extra ground throughout, neither of which is ideal.

This race has genuine depth, and several locally proven runners appear better suited under the likely race conditions.

At the current price, he represents an excellent risk.
