Caulfield Race 5 #8 Verdoux $2.50

Happy to oppose the Malua Racing runner here, who rises to Benchmark 96 level where several smart types are waiting.

He has been impressive winning his past two starts this preparation, however this looks like the point where he may reach his ceiling.

He typically rolls forward, but there appears to be enough speed engaged to ensure he does not get things his own way. If pressured early, he may be forced to work harder than ideal.

The jockey change to apprentice Jackson Radley also presents a risk at this level, where experience can be crucial in a competitive race.

At the current price, I would much prefer to be betting around him.

Caulfield Race 6 #2 Point Barrow $2.80

The market appears to be anchored to her Oakleigh Plate quote, where she was heavily supported but failed to deliver.

As a result, she comes up short again here in what looks like a deeper and more competitive race.

She faces strong opposition, including Alpha Sophie, who would have been prominent in Oakleigh Plate betting, along with several other capable runners who bring genuine depth to the contest.

She lacks early tactical speed and from gate three around Caulfield, there is a strong chance she ends up back and buried along the inside.

From that position, she is likely to face a very difficult task to circle the field, which is far from ideal at short odds.
