They aren't Speed Machines

This week we focus on two warm favourites who appear vulnerable at their current short quotes in betting.
As the Queensland winter carnival builds, a star sprinter resumes and is unlikely to be fully wound up, with larger Group 1 targets later in the preparation.
At Bendigo, an unbeaten two year old faces a completely different race shape with more pressure expected and may not secure the easy lead he has enjoyed previously.
Saturday Lays of the Day 2/5/26
Eagle Farm Race 8 #4 Private Harry $3.00
Returns from a spell where bone bruising has been identified, which is always a concern moving forward.
This does not appear to be the grand final, with much bigger targets ahead including the Doomben 10,000. It is highly unlikely he is fully wound up for this assignment.
From a commercial perspective, there is little incentive to peak here, with greater rewards tied to major Group 1 performances later in the campaign.
Expect him to be ridden conservatively, with a focus on building fitness rather than winning at all costs.
While he clearly has ability, this shapes as more of a stepping stone run and a drift in the market would not surprise.
Avoid.
Bendigo Race 2 #2 The Speed Machine $2.10
Remains unbeaten after two starts, however this represents a much tougher test against a number of well prepared debut runners.
His most recent win came off a slowly run race at Mornington, where he was able to control the tempo. This scenario looks very different here with more pressure expected in a larger field.
If he is unable to find the lead comfortably and is forced to work early, he will face a new level of pressure that has not yet been tested.
This setup introduces a different challenge and may expose him late.
Expect professional money to oppose him late in betting, with a potential drift as the market matures.
Lay.
