This week we focus on the key two year old runners at Randwick, both of whom come up as excellent risks at short prices in their respective feature races.

In the fillies event, a much hyped Queensland raider is forced to step sharply up in grade to meet the stronger Sydney juveniles.

Meanwhile in the colts feature, a controversial runner returns after the well publicised Magic Millions scratching on veterinary advice.

Saturday Lays of the Day 28/2/26

Randwick Race 4 #6 Pembrey $2.30

A hyped juvenile who was ultra impressive on debut in Queensland, winning by more than five lengths, albeit in significantly weaker company.

This is a major step up in class and she now faces a far deeper and more competitive group of Sydney two year olds.

The market appears to have overreacted to that dominant debut performance.

There looks to be genuine early pressure in this race, and if connections elect to push forward she will need to work hard through the first 600 metres.

That will expose her to a new pain barrier, which may prove testing against stronger opposition.

The booking of James McDonald almost guarantees the price remains artificially compressed.

At the current quote, she shapes as an excellent risk.

Avoid.

Randwick Race 5 #4 Warwoven $2.00

It would be a significant training performance if Bjorn Baker can have this colt back to his best following the widely publicised Gold Coast Magic Millions scratching on veterinary advice.

There is no doubt he has ability, but with a disrupted preparation and a clear setback, the current price looks pure poison.

Barrier one is also no advantage here.

He risks being buried along the inside, with several rivals likely to secure superior in run positions and clear air at the right time.

Rachel King will need to produce a perfectly timed ride to extract him from traffic, and that looks far from guaranteed in what should be a high pressure juvenile contest.

With clear concerns around preparation and race shape, I am more than happy to oppose him at the short quote.

Lay.
