This week we focus on two high-risk propositions at Rosehill, both of which face significant challenges, particularly with demanding international travel schedules.

Early in the card, a high-profile import resumes without a run since October 2025 and looks vulnerable first up against race-fit local opposition.

Midway through the meeting, another international visitor brings New Zealand form, which often does not measure up to Australian depth, and appears overbet at the current quote.

Saturday Lays of the Day 28/3/26

Rosehill Race 2 #2 Barnavara $1.70

Happy to oppose the Yulong import, who may struggle to cope with the demands of international travel and the step into Australian racing conditions.

There is no doubt he has class, arriving off a French Group 1 win, however that performance came back in October last year and he has not had a race start since.

He now faces several race-fit locals who should ensure a genuine tempo, and that may expose any lack of sharpness late in the race.

The tight-turning Rosehill circuit also presents a new challenge. Compared to the wider European tracks he is used to, the shorter straight and tighter layout may leave him flat-footed when the sprint goes on.

At the current price, he looks a clear risk.

Avoid.

Rosehill Race 6 #1 Ohope Wins $2.80

Another Yulong runner to oppose, with similar concerns around travel and transition into Australian racing.

She has been excellent in New Zealand, winning her past three starts including the New Zealand Oaks. However, that form can often prove inferior when tested against Australian staying fillies.

This is a step up in overall class, and she now meets a stronger and more seasoned group of rivals.

Historically, there is often a gap between the two jurisdictions, where even moderate Australian performers can measure up strongly against the best New Zealand stayers.

Salty Pearl profiles as the progressive runner in this race, and I expect the gap in the market to tighten as betting progresses.

At the current price, she represents poor value.

Lay.
