Lay Betting Tips: Who to avoid on the punt 5/9/26

This week we highlight two favourites at Sandown where the likely scenario for both appears challenging, making their current prices look well under the odds.

Early in the day, a noted front runner finds herself in a race with other genuine speedsters and could struggle to assert herself early against the likes of Beast Mode.

Whilst later in the day, the McEvoy camp has set its star filly a huge task from a horror draw against proven Group 1 performers. The placement looks questionable, with the risk of a serious gut buster this early in her career.

Sandown Race 3 #8 Tres Magnifique $2.60

High quality mare who typically loves to lead and grind her opposition into the ground, however the speed map looks completely against her on this occasion.

If they attempt to go forward, there is every chance she gets cut to ribbons early by noted speedster Beast Mode, who should ensure there are no cheap sectionals up front.

I cannot see her getting an easy time on or close to the speed, with the likely early pressure creating an ugly scenario for a horse that does her best work when allowed to control proceedings.

It should also be noted she is first up and a fast run gut buster is hardly the ideal setup this early in the preparation.

Wait until she finds a race where she can dictate on her own terms without the threat of another runner constantly applying pressure.

At the current poison odds, she comes up as an excellent risk.

Avoid.

 

Sandown Race 8 #13 Natural Fling $3.00

Thrown straight into the deep end against proven Group 1 performers and she looks right up against it from both a class and experience perspective.

There is no doubting she has plenty of ability, however she faces a mammoth task launching from the outside gate in a hot race with plenty of early speed drawn underneath her.

If they want to ride to her natural pattern and go forward, she will almost certainly be forced to work overtime early to find a position.

The nightmare scenario is being unable to cross and finding herself posted wide for a significant portion of the race, burning valuable petrol against hardened Group 1 opposition.

I expect they will persist with the positive tactics, which could see her doing plenty of work throughout before becoming extremely vulnerable over the final 200 metres.

At the current quote, there is simply no value in taking the risk.
