Mark Hunter has narrowed the opening race at Sandown down to three main chances, but believes the market should have one runner clearly on top.

After working through the recent form involving Judas Tree, Commit and Vallice, Hunter is siding with Vallice, who should be fitter and looks ideally suited stepping up to 1400m.

Mark Hunter – Sandown Saturday Best Bet 22/8/26

Best Bet – Race 1 #6 Vallice

There look to be three obvious chances in this race — #5, #6 and #8 — and the recent clashes between them provide a good guide.

Judas Tree beat Commit home at Sandown, but Commit produced the better run of the pair.

Commit then finished ahead of Vallice at Caulfield, but again the finishing order doesn't tell the full story. Vallice produced the better performance despite being beaten home.

That puts Vallice firmly on top heading into Saturday.

She should strip fitter for that latest run and the step up to 1400m looks a significant positive.

On the strength of those recent performances and with the more suitable setup this time, Vallice should be clear favourite and looks the one to beat.
