Mick Gannon heads to Royal Randwick for a massive Everest Day program, with two runners catching his eye on one of the biggest Saturdays of the spring carnival.
The promising Cloudy Scout looks ready to make her mark in Group 3 company after an encouraging debut, while proven Group 1 sprinter Jimmysstar shapes as a strong place betting opportunity in The Everest.
With rain-affected conditions expected at Randwick, Mick is confident Jimmysstar can produce another big performance, while Cloudy Scout offers plenty of upside earlier in the program.

Mick Gannon’s Randwick Everest Day Best Bets 17/10/26
Best Bet – Race 2 #10 Cloudy Scout
Cloudy Scout brings a different form reference into this Group 3 contest, and I think she's a filly with plenty of improvement ahead.
She made a strong impression on debut over 1400m at Illawarra Grange, finishing second behind Unhigned, who has since franked that form with a dominant metropolitan victory at Rosehill on Wednesday.
That gives her debut performance plenty of substance, particularly considering she was having her first race start.
What appeals to me is the combination of her natural ability and the improvement she's entitled to make with that experience behind her.
She also maps favourably, which should allow her to secure a good position in running without needing to do too much work.
Stepping into Group 3 company is a challenge, but she's lightly raced, has encouraging form around her and looks capable of taking the next step.
I expect her to be right in the finish.
Cloudy Scout is a good 1x4 betting opportunity, with her upside and favourable race map making her an attractive proposition.
Next Best – Race 7 #2 Jimmysstar ($3.00 Place)
Jimmysstar returns for another crack at The Everest, and I think he's ideally placed to produce a much stronger performance than his finishing position last year might suggest.
He finished third in the 2025 edition despite being ridden outside his preferred racing pattern, which makes that performance particularly creditable.
This time around, the race map looks considerably more favourable.
He should be able to settle into a more comfortable position, allowing him to conserve his energy before producing his customary finishing burst.
The expected rain-affected conditions are another major positive.
Jimmysstar has demonstrated his ability on wet tracks, and the additional give in the ground should play to his strengths.
His recent Manikato Stakes victory was also a terrific indication that he's returned to his best form.
That performance confirmed he's going well enough to be competitive against elite opposition.
Ka Ying Rising is clearly the horse everyone has to beat, but I believe Jimmysstar has a significant tactical advantage over fellow contender Tempted.
With the likely race shape and conditions in his favour, I rate him the most likely runner to finish second behind the Hong Kong superstar.
At $3.00 the place, Jimmysstar looks an excellent betting opportunity in The Everest.
